Joseph and constructive feedback
Everybody, Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, sleepy.
You ready to sing it to everyone? Let's go!
Two, three, happy birthday Feliz Cumpianio, man!
It's turnin' in Cuatro Saños, Cuatro Saños!
Let's set up the firehouse, alright?
Mom, take it off the camera, take it off the camera!
Sweetie, don't ignore him, okay?
Just make a wish and blow the candles out.
Announcement, announcement time!
Here we go!
Just want to let you guys know that we are getting divorced.
Alright, alright.
Finally, yes, yes!
We just found out that we are having a boy.
And his name is gonna be Jonathan.
Come on, get him! Get him!
Get him, Sam! Get him, Sam!
Wow! Oh, man! Gross! Gross! You know, I gotta clean that later.
Got great news! Wait till you're here.
Alright, you need to sit down for this.
Okay, you're already sitting.
You know how hard I've been working.
You know how much we've sacrificed.
How much I've been studying.
Finally, I passed a lieutenant's test.
What happened?
Is Sam Jonathan okay?
What happened?
Can you remember when we'd had that meeting with this boy?
Yeah.
It's gonna be fine.
He's fine. Do you understand?
Let's try another question. How about it?
Can you tell me how old you are?
Jonathan, are you two?
No.
Three?
Jonathan, can you show me with your fingers how old you are?
Okay, let's move on to something else.
How about some pictures of some friends of ours?
Can you tell me what this is? He's green and he hops around.
What's he called? Is he a turtle?
No.
This is a frog, right?
Alright.
How about we play with this?
This is a shiny red ball and I'm gonna roll it right to you.
So you roll it right back to me.
You're a big boy and you can do that.
Ready?
Roll it right back, Jonathan.
Right back to me.
Roll the ball.
Roll the ball.
Can you roll it back to me, Jonathan?
I understand how you feel, but based on the tests,
Jonathan appears to be in the spectrum.
But how do we know? I mean, every kid's different.
Bobby's kid, he didn't speak to what for?
He made no eye contact. He was unresponsive.
He wouldn't wave back at me.
All of this is highly unusual for a five-year-old.
That doesn't mean anything, okay?
There's nothing wrong with my kid.
So, um, what can we do to help him?
Early intervention is critical.
I recommend Jonathan receive speech therapy,
occupational therapy, and physical therapy several times a week.
This isn't happening, not my kid.
He would have a different therapist for each service,
and there is some assistance available out there
which I can review with you when the time comes.
But first, we need to create an IE case,
which is an individualized education program.
It's a plan and a sensitizing.
We'll be setting Jonathan's bonus and resources
at the end of the day.
Thanks for picking Sam up.
Oh, shit. Sorry, honey. I've got to go.
I'll go upstairs and have your weather on.
It's with her.
You didn't take that promotion so you could help take care of her son.
But when you're not at the firehouse,
all you do is sit on your ass and drink.
Come on, I help.
You do not show him any attention or affection.
He doesn't give me any either.
Neither do you.
You know something?
I feel like we're roommates.
We don't talk anymore. We don't have sex.
You're always complaining that you never have me.
And you, you're a horrible father, just like your father was.
I am not like him.
You are exactly like him.
Mommy, come help me.
Oh, come on.
Finish it off the water first.
Hand me that towel. Hand me that towel.
Oh, come on.
Come on.
Niki, give me another.
Why don't you take it easy tonight, Devi?
I'm fine.
Come on, I'll take it easy.
What?
Why did you lie to me?
What the hell are you talking about?
I was born with this, but you told me I fell when I was two years old.
God said, be a man, will you?
Be a man. Look at me.
A pathetic defect.
What did you say?
You heard me. A pathetic defect.
Why did you lie to me?
Why did you lie to me?
You never should have been born.
You never should have been born again.
Slide me in.
I don't want you in here.
Look, I have a hard time, okay?
Now please come in.
Here, you need to eat something.
Thanks.
You need to get into a program and get some help.
I will not allow you in this house as long as you're drinking.
Our children will not be exposed to that.
You hear me?
Here we go again with the lecture.
Someone's got to talk some sense into you.
It's obvious you don't get any words of wisdom from those clowns you call brothers.
One of those clowns saved my ass, but you wouldn't understand that.
They go live with them. Go ruin their lives like you're ruining ours.
Bitch.
Me? You are the selfish son of a bitch around here.
I have sacrificed everything for you and this family,
and your daughter has done everything she can to try and please you,
but you don't even see it.
And your son, your son depends on you more than you could even imagine,
but you have no idea because you're just so wrapped up in yourself.
I'm sick and tired of this bullshit! I've had enough!
Oh my God.
Get out of here before you destroy him!
Hey, it's good to see you're still alive.
Barely.
The guy's at the house been asking about you.
So where you been?
A lot of heavy shit going on at home. Karen kicked me out.
Wow. Anything I can do to help?
I don't mean that. You asked you. I think I could crash you to your place for a while.
I promise. Look, I'll be here just a few weeks.
I'll sleep in the basement. You won't even over here.
Listen, Dave, you know I've always been there for you.
I've never turned my back on you, but I got the brand new baby.
She's a crier. Sheila's hormones all out of whack.
Right, right. If you don't, fine. If you don't want to help her brother, I'll just say so, okay?
Now you know that's not even the case.
But she won't let me back in the house unless I get into a freaking program.
Then get into a program.
Listen, Dave, I know you. I know your history.
Do not go down that same path or you'll end up just like him.
That's the sound of hormones.
Lots of hormones. I gotta go.
Call me. Call me later.
Yeah.
Hey, Karen. Karen, I just want to see my boy.
Come on, baby.
Come on, Karen. I'm sorry. Look.
Come on, let me in the house.
Don't you touch me.
Is everything okay, Karen?
Mind your damn business.
Karen, look, you're gonna let me in the house.
All right, just give me another chance.
Okay, Karen.
Let me go.
Hey, guys, get your hands off me.
Get your fucking hands off me.
No, no, no.
Back off, man.
Stop it.
I've been up before you came.
What's wrong with you?
I had to let him go.
Are you sure?
Yeah, I don't know.
I'll just take it and relax.
I'm trying to write a note next time, so I'm sure.
Come on, Karen.
Karen.
Karen.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Come on.
Hey, uh, you know, the cookbook size is better to gift than to receive, so uh, why don't you
do it about yourself?
What do you want, mister?
You don't recognize me, do you?
Uh, I'm a fireman.
I know the streets.
It wasn't hard.
You're a fireman.
You don't look like shit.
Yeah, well, for the past few years, my life's been shit.
Came to tell you that.
I understand.
Got a boy.
He's got some issues.
Didn't know how to handle it, so I started drinking and popping pills.
Got a lot of things I'm not proud of.
Then I got to thinking, I'm not a bad person.
I'm one of the good guys.
Safe people.
But I was, uh, weak.
Ashamed.
And then it hit me.
When I was born, my birth defect, you reacted the same way I reacted when I found out about my son.
And all the, uh, hatred and anger I held towards you just, just went away.
So I came here to tell you that I forgive you, and that I love you, and I understand what you're saying.
Oh, you forgive me?
You seem to forget it was you and your mother threw me out in the street with nothing.
Dad, you had a choice.
You had choices to look at the fucking mess you are.
Yeah, maybe, but I'm choosing to clean myself up with my family.
I got a, I got a great wife, a beautiful daughter, and a son who needs to grow up with a father.
Yeah, yeah, good for you.
I see your grandkids. Sam and Jonathan.
See, Dad turned out pretty good after all, huh?
It's never too late to change.
I'll be here for you if you decide.
Yeah, fine. You said you're peace. Now get out of here. I gotta eat. Get out of here.
Get the hell out of here.
Yeah.
I can't find Jonathan.
What do you mean you can't find him?
I was washing clothes and I asked him to watch him and he just somehow left the house.
I'm on my way.
David! David!
Did you find him?
No!
Where's Sam?
He's in the house with Sheila.
Get in.
What was he wearing?
The jeans and a gray shirt.
Oh, and Sam said that he was wearing that, uh, that, that cape he used to wear.
Oh my God.
What, do you know where he is?
Yeah, I did, I did.
Go.
Jonathan! Jonathan!
Jonathan, where are you?
Jonathan!
Jonathan! Jonathan!
Jonathan!
Please go, please.
Jonathan!
Look over there.
Oh God.
Where is he?
Oh God, no!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Where is he?
Oh God.
No, no, no.
Jonathan!
No, no, no, no, no, no.
He's over there!
Jonathan!
Jonathan!
Oh my God!
Jonathan!
Oh God, is he okay?
Oh God.
Oh my God.
Go.
Is he okay?
Is he okay?
Is he okay?
Is he breathing?
Is he okay?
No, no, no, no!
Jonathan!
Oh God!
Jonathan!
Jonathan!
Wait!
Wait!
No, no, no.
No, no.
No, no, no.
No, no.
No.
No.
The initial phase of the program's only a few weeks.
After that, I'll be home for a few days before I have to go back.
I don't know how much you should have your husband back.
It's just that you still want me.
Get through this.
Why don't you come up and say goodbye to the kids one more time?
Good baking, good eating, little dinosaur.
Jonathan, daddy's got to go away for a while.
But I'll be back, okay?
Mommy and I love you and Sam very much.
Pretty soon we'll all be together again.
Okay, daddy's got to go now.
Okay.
Excuse me, can you tell us what happened?
Yeah, we had a fire on the second floor, the rear bedroom,
the three-story building, extended to the third floor,
and we had a family we took out, and thankfully everybody was safe.
Any idea what caused it?
Sorry, I can't answer any more questions.
Thank you.
