My sisters all went here and it's like, it's home to me.
Mountain Vista is a lot like a family, like it sounds super cheesy to say that, but it
really is.
When you establish a great climate and culture in a building and kids feel real good about
being here and they know that there's folks who feel the same, you can then work on accomplishing
just about anything you want to do.
I think that as I watch as I stand out in the hall every morning and greet kids, you
know, we want to create an overall feel of acceptance for every kid and we want to provide
the opportunity for every kid to be a part of something great.
If I had one half and three halves, what do I get?
My teachers really put things in a bigger picture perspective, whether it's like, you
know, just life overall or college, it makes sure that we know that there's a purpose to
what we're doing here.
We have something for everybody at our school and I think that sense of pride comes from
I have a place in the classroom, I have a place outside the classroom and in reality
with Education Day I have a place outside of my community or in my community.
And the teachers have this really noble desire just for education, you know, like holistic
education, not just let's learn out of a textbook and learn this and do flashcards and stuff
like that, but this is important for the world and you are the future, you know, the students
are treated as if they're the future of Colorado and of Douglas County and of the world.
And so whether you're in science or math or social studies or in journalism, there's
meaning in the classroom because there's meaning outside the classroom and when we connect
our kids within the classroom to what's out there, it's just an incredible opportunity
and I think when they go to college they're like, okay, I get it or they go to the workplace
with military, I get it and I really think that's a foundation of our school.
I shall wear me as I will sire, as I will.
We're lucky enough to have not only the visual arts and fine arts but the performing arts,
we have some of the best people around.
There's always a sense of support, especially from the teachers.
I think the teachers are one of the best parts of this whole school is that the teachers
have just as much spirit and love for the school as the students do.
We want people to know if they are a science tech engineering or math kid coming out of
Mountain Ridge or coming out of the charters that are looking for a high school that we're
providing, you know, one of the finest programs in the state.
We're creating a trebuchet and we're aiming for accuracy so we're trying to aim into those
boxes over there.
How's it going?
Oh, it's pretty inconsistent.
We're getting somewhere.
I feel like a comprehensive school is just a nerf way of saying that we're really open
ended.
Like, we don't really want to focus on like one thing, like some people are really good
at math, some people are really good at science, some people are really good at like writing
or art and we try to provide all of these ways to nurture these talents and these interests.
Every kid that walks in our doors, there's an opportunity for them to be a part of something
great.
I think we're just like a big melting pot.
Everybody has like a common interest and it just ties together in the end and everybody
has a place for them.
It's just a matter of where it is.
A number of times I've had kids come to my classroom math or from science or from social
studies energize and then I can build on that in my classroom is super exciting and I really
want them to leave thinking like, I don't want to leave my class.
I really do feel like there's something different about this school and it's just, it's awesome.
It's truly a unique high school experience.
