Well happy Friday everybody and happy June. It's hard to believe we are
approaching halfway through 2017 already. It's crazy. Today I'm gonna be showing you
guys how I do my own personal winged liner and full disclosure and full
disclaimer for you here. I struggle with this, putting it on myself. I can do
winged liner in my sleep on a client but to do it on yourself is a totally
different ballgame. So I cannot promise that this is gonna come out perfect the
first time. So I've got my handy dandy makeup remover wipes here just in case
it doesn't go as planned. So bear with me but I wanted to show you guys how I do
my own winged liner because this application technique that I'm gonna
show you has been the easiest for me personally and with anything with makeup
you kind of have to play with it and make it your own. Practice a few times
and do what works for you and ultimately gives you the results that you're
looking for. So first and foremost the most important and in my opinion on
getting that winged liner is the eyeliner that you're actually using. So some
people like to use the gel liners with the angled brush that works great. That's
how I apply winged liner to my clients but on myself it doesn't work for me. So
I actually use the liner pencil and the one that I absolutely love and has been
the most successful for me is from Trish McEvroy and it is the, let me see if I
can get this to focus for you, it's the lash enhancing liquid liner pen. It's a
little expensive, I will forewarn you, I believe this eyeliner is $49 so it's a
little bit pricey but for me I make it last anywhere from six to eight months
because I don't use it every day and it's a great, it's a great product and I've
tried many of the pens and this is by far my favorite. So if it's in your budget
I would definitely just say treat yourself and splurge on this one item but
yeah so this guy can kind of give it a little bit of a shake to kind of get
that product working and I will show you if I can get the cap off so it looks
like this. So I like it because the pen is pretty firm so it makes it easy to
create that really nice precise line but it's also soft enough so that it
doesn't hurt your eye when you're applying it. I've used some pens in the
past that are super hard and it hurts when you go to apply it so this one's
great because it's firm enough to be able to to use and get that perfect line
but also again soft enough where you're not hurting yourself. So the first thing
that I do when I do my winged liner on myself is I've got my mirror over here
and you kind of want to tilt your head back so in the mirror here I'm going to
tilt my head back and ultimately you want that line to kind of line up to
kind of line up from the outside corner of your nose up to the corner of your
eye and that's how you kind of know what the angle is that you want your wing to
ultimately be at. So I'm going to go ahead and tip my head back and I'm going to
draw that first initial line and I'm going to stop talking so I can get that
precise line.
Okay and honestly you guys what's end up so I've just got that little little
wing tip right now. What I find works best for me is when I'm drawing my wings
on to draw them towards my eye instead of going outwards it just I feel like
creates a more taut, a tautness with the skin I guess to try to describe this to
you so that you're not playing you know you're not having your skin working
against you it's working with you. So now that I've got that initial swoop down
I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to kind of create an outline. So from the
top point of that line that we just drew I'm going to kind of hold my eye a
little bit my mom always told me not to do this but this is the way I do it so
that's too bad. You're gonna go ahead and draw across now from the top point of
that line downwards. So you can kind of see it's starting to I haven't filled it
in yet but that wing is starting to create itself. So I'm gonna go ahead and
fill this guy in and now you can kind of work play with it and do it outwards or
do it inwards whatever works best for you. Okay and then to finish it off I'm
gonna go ahead and I'm gonna pull my I'm gonna kind of close my eye pull it down
and just dot right along my lash line. Notice I'm not just taking one harsh
movement outwards I'm doing little bit little bitty dots along my lash line
and then you can always go back in and fill it in more if you need to. Their
dashes are still there and they're not connected but that's just the easiest
way to do it because then again you can course correct if you've gotten it too
high up or if you've made a mistake.
All right, so I'm getting it all smoothed out now.
It's kind of hard to talk and do eyeliner at the same time. So as you can see I've
got my my wing and if you want to make it more dramatic you can. I'm gonna go
ahead and just give it a little bit more drama again drawing inwards whenever
you're working on the wing you want to draw inwards towards your eye. It makes
it so much easier and there you have it. We've got one side done. Now the true test
you guys is to get the other eye to match right? It's like great I get one eye
perfect and then it's to get the other side to match it's kind of the struggle
is real. So again I'm gonna tip my head back you're gonna find that natural
angle of the line that you want your wing to be and again you find that by kind
of seeing taking your pen outside corner of your nose up to the outside
corner of your eye and that's kind of how you know where you want the angle to
be. Jesse I hear you that's when I always feel you know what me too we're gonna
put this to the test and I know you just joined in but I did a full disclosure
up front that I know I'm a makeup artist but I'm a human being too and that
this might not go as planned so we're hoping we're got our fingers crossed that
I don't make a complete fool of myself here now when we go to do the second eye
so bear with me if I do make a mistake. Alright so you're gonna go ahead tip
your head back in the mirror and I've got my mirror over here and I kind of just
hold a little bit just to create that tautness okay and then you're gonna go
in and draw that line kind of looking back or looking up rather okay and again
Q-tips best friend I just made a little mistake just got a little bit too thick
on the bottom there but Q-tips are your best friend okay when you're doing a
winged liner so now we've got that right so there we have it okay now I'm gonna
go up and I'm gonna create that swoop inwards so you stop at the start at the
top point of where you've made that line for your wing and draw it inward
okay yep draw inward oh Jesse I have not put mascara on yet so we're gonna do
that next to kind of finish up the look so I will get you guys that information
here shortly so see how we've we've started to fill that in and again I'm
gonna draw it inwards it's just easier okay I'm gonna finish this up again
little dashes along your lash line
oh yes okay so Jesse the eyeliner that I'm using is from Trish McAvoy it is
the lash enhancing liner pen and it is seriously amazing I really didn't start
doing winged eyeliner on myself until I found this eyeliner it looks like this
and I'll put a link to to it let me see if I can get it to focus I'll put a link
to this in the comment section after we post the video to you it's kind of
expensive but in my opinion totally worth it I usually am not a huge fan of
saying over $30 for an eyeliner but it's totally worth it all right so we're
gonna finish this guy up here and I think by golly I think I'm pretty even
there's like one little spot over here that I need to tweak but I think we got
it so that's that it's honestly it's a lot of practice you guys it's doing
winged liner is not easy it's definitely a tricky thing at least for me it was at
first when I first started doing it on myself again in my sleep but oh Vinnie
saying hi say hi Vinnie it was hard you know I could do it in my sleep on my
clients because it's a whole different angle thing it's kind of like when you
put false lashes on yourself you kind of have to have your eye closed but it has
to be open at the same time so you can see what you're doing so it's all about
just finding that angle and honestly for me again when I set my head back and
find that angle and draw it in it has been the easiest way for me to do it and
starting with the wing instead of doing your all of your liner first and then
putting the wing on for me it's easier for me to do my wing first find that
angle and then draw in the rest of my liner so next I'm just gonna finish off
my look here with some Mac mascara and you know what I honestly I'm so sorry I
don't know which one this is but it looks like this I was I love Macs
mascaras I have also used their zoom fast black lash I have the hot and naughty
that one's kind of fun the name is fun too but this one I really like it's got
kind of a silicone type of brush on it so I really like that hi Alice how are
you happy Friday and when with mascara you guys I just I like to do my top
lashes first again it's no rules to makeup but it for me it's just what
works best and to really pack it in you just want to do kind of like a wiggling
motion of the base here I love mascara it's like the best thing ever
mascara tip and a if you watched my first segment with Twin Cities live that
I did on tween makeup you do not want to pump your mascara to you guys it gets
air in there and bacteria it dries out your mascara faster it's just not good
so if you need more product on there you're better off to just insert it
once pull it back out don't pump very bad
alright and when I do wing liner I like all the drama to stay on my top lid so
I typically go a little bit later on the mascara on my bottom lashes again
personal preference and I usually don't do any liner on the bottom but what
that said if I'm doing like a really sultry night outlook and I want it to
be super smoky and really dramatic then I definitely will but it's still daytime
and I'm keeping a little bit more natural I've date night with Sam tonight
and he likes it when my makeup is a little bit more natural so so that is
that I'm just gonna finish it off with a little I just got this cute little peach
lip gloss at Sephora as one of their there I had worked up enough points or
whatever to get this cute little peach lip gloss so I haven't put it on yet but
I just kind of thought it would be fun for today just to kind of finish off the
look and peach is super is kind of like this color of the summer this season or
this year alright well that is it you guys feel free to ask any questions and
