Hi, my name is Cutie. I make music and I'm the CEO of Drink Cutie. I'm on my way to
one of the most digitally connected cities on the planet, Seoul, to experience their cuisine
and culture. Flavor research is a vital part of my creative process. I believe all of our
senses inform one another. I want to explore new ways in which we are advancing our understanding
and consumption of tastes and flavors. I'm not sure what to expect of South Korea but I'm excited
to meet some amazing innovators. My collective findings will inform my music and my first
performance here in Korea.
Thank you very much.
Can you say hi to everyone?
Hi everyone.
Hi.
We're going to show you what kind of person we are.
Wow.
Hey, can you say hi?
Yeah, that's something I want to say.
I'm gonna have my own body.
I'm gonna have my own body.
I'm gonna have my own body.
I'm gonna have my own body.
I'm gonna have my own body.
Yeah, this is what I want to say.
I'm gonna have my own body.
I think it's funny to have a mukbang on TV.
Because we're not eating together.
And we're only meeting online.
I'm eating, and you're watching.
I'm eating, and you're watching.
This is my life.
I'm eating.
I'm eating.
I'm eating.
I'm eating.
Why are you watching this.
I don't know why you're watching this.
But today, we're here to have an experience together.
Right?
I am excited.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
So today, we're gonna do a mukbang.
Can you hear that?
Can you hear the sound?
Can you hear the sound?
People just love to hear the sound.
The water boiling sound and...
I think it motivates people at the time.
One of the guys tells it,
I feel like I'm eating with you.
Like...
So there is actually...
It's almost like a shared meal,
but they don't have the experience of eating it.
They still experience it.
Yeah.
I can taste it.
Definitely, definitely.
Okay, the important thing when you actually do an excellent mukbang
is you put your mic really close to you
and people want to hear you.
Seriously, people want to hear you eating this.
I think it's about the new society.
People spend more time on their smartphones.
There are some, you know, less connection
with your friends or your families.
And they would rather, you know,
feel like they're eating with me.
Your fans consume you, consuming food.
My question for you is,
what does consumption feel like?
I'm consuming food and they're consuming me.
I like that idea.
As a mukbang entertainer,
if I become a taste,
then I want to be entertaining taste.
I experience genuine excitement
in Jessica's exchange with her fans,
which helped me understand the strong sense of community
that she creates online,
but is virtual consumption enough?
The culinary data I'm collecting and sampling
will be used to digitally reconfigure my music.
I want to find out how other people are using ingredients
as means of communication.
I was intrigued to meet Chef Tae Hwan,
who develops edible creations
that are infused with emotions
at his restaurant, Rye Unique.
If you suddenly encounter two flavors,
it's not easy, but you start to get a sense of it.
If you put it back in that flavor,
then the flavor and the scent are mixed together,
and you get a sense of it.
What are the essential elements in your process?
What are the essential elements in your process?
We made this for Cutie.
We inspired Cutie and made it.
The title is Cotton Pie.
It's an apple crumble.
It's an apple caramel.
In the case of pink,
I thought it would go well with Cutie's concept.
I'm so inspired, by the way,
Tae Hwan channels personal memories
of place and time into his dishes,
and his ability to convey new tastes
and sensory way to a wider audience.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
Drink it, and you're there, every time.
We traveled 169 miles to Baekyeongsa Temple
to meet legendary Buddhist monk chef, Jung Hwan,
who believes her unique food channels emotion
and heightens connectivity through her cooking techniques.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
The way I communicate is that I really look at the person's heart.
I already have both my heart and mind with me.
I feel like I'm just my family, I feel like I've seen them before.
I'm just sharing my time with them.
We're sharing our time together.
How does your food communicate your philosophy?
It means that I can give happiness to the other person only when I'm happy.
It also means that I can be together with the self-sacrifice when I wake up.
It's the purpose of my life.
I'm sharing my time with the person who makes their own food.
It means that we share the emotions of each other.
There are five colors in the space.
Red, yellow, blue, and blue.
If I try to make it later, I'm sure I'll be able to feel like I'm together with the other person.
My time with Jun Kwon confirmed my feelings.
That the shared experience of a meal universally connects us.
This is what allows us to resonate with each other and share emotion.
No matter the medium.
My research has helped me discover so much about the ways in which tastes and flavors can communicate.
Whether digital, physical, or from memory,
flavors and tastes can be experienced through all senses, across all mediums.
My research in Korea has transformed me and my music.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
I can't wait to experience it with you.
