Hello everybody, this is Traveling with Robert Tico, episode 16.
I am your host, Robert Morales, aka Robert Tico, and today we are going back to San
Francisco. Today, however, we are not doing what the typical tourist will do in
San Francisco. Today we are doing the geeky things. And as I said in the
previous episode, the main reason we came to San Francisco this time was to
attend Macworld Expo 2008. And that's what we did. The first day, the first thing we
did was go to the Moscone Center and get our badge. After that, we had lunch at
the 21st Amendment Brewery, which is the place where Leo Laporte recorded the
pilot for this week in tech, his famous podcast.
We just ate at the 21st Amendment Brewery and it was excellent.
And after that, we passed by CNET, by the CNET Studios hoping to see Tom Merritt or
Molly Wood. That night, we went to our first Macworld Expo party.
It's Monday, January 14th, and we are on the line for the Macworld party, the first
wine sponsored by Ars Technica in this mode. I would like to back to you with some
footage from inside. We are at Harrods. We are at Harrods at the great Macworld party,
and we are drinking and drinking and drinking and drinking, but have a good time.
This is Justin of Justin.tv. So this is it for the first Macworld Expo party. We
will back tomorrow with more news, more parties. Perhaps I had a little too much to drink.
Next day, we went to the Moscone Center to check out the show floor.
We finally made it to Macworld Expo 2008. We are going to be able to drink in a few minutes
of the show. And we continue here at Macworld Expo. We are very excited about the new announcement
by Steve Jobs about the air, the new laptop, and the new software for the iPhone and all
that stuff. And that was one of the first few hundred
people to actually touch a MacBook Air.
That night, we went to the recording of the Apple Universe podcast, which was held at
the Zoom, right next to the Moscone Center. The podcast is hosted by David Brusilovsky,
who was 15 years old at the time. Also present were Robert Scoble, Dave Sifri,
Ruby, iJustine, and Kali Lewis, among other tech celebrities.
The music was provided by Devo.
Another night, we went to the podcasters meetup, where there was another panel for another
podcast with Kali Lewis, Leola Port, Scott Bourne, and many other famous podcasters.
That's where we met Kali Lewis in person of Geek Brief TV.
On the next day, we visited the mothership. Yes, one infinite loop, headquarters for Apple
Computer. I'm sorry, Apple Inc. I forgot to drop the computer from the name. And always
went to the company store, but some souvenirs and took some pictures.
After our pilgrimage to Cupertino, we went to the Google campus to check it out, but
we got kicked out immediately by the security guard.
So we decided to go to the Computer History Museum instead, and that was actually very
nice. We got to see many computers, even some that I didn't even know existed. Of course,
the Apple, the Apple II, the Macintosh. We got to see the Newton. It was very cool, actually.
And that's it for this episode. As always, thank you for watching, and happy travels!
