Oh yeah, there you go, woohoo, you can get a picture of this, this is amazing, I wish
I didn't start skating until I was about the fourth grade until I moved to California.
Right when I got out of the moving truck in San Jose at my aunt's house, basically got
out of the truck and there was two kids across the street skateboarding, so I immediately
went over there and was like, hey, how you doing, I have a skateboard too, and they were
like, oh cool, and those two people ended up being my best friends for all the way through
high school.
What are you doing?
I'm terrible.
San Jose has always been just known for who lives here and the skate scene here, so you
know, I'm a photographer, so I am my surroundings.
So San Jose is really influential, like it's basically everything, you know, in my photography
unless I'm traveling.
I came out to San Francisco two years ago, almost to the day, to the month, definitely.
I was in Portland for three years before that, which was good for photography, lots of down
time, alone time.
I think the main thing about it is while you're out skating, you see things to shoot, and
so you, I don't know, maybe it's just more natural that you're already out there, you're
going to be out skating anyways, and so you just shoot what's there as opposed to going
out looking for photos, and then same thing if you decide shooting photos, you're also
looking at skate spots and always aware of what's around you, you know, looking for new
shit.
As skateboarders, we are on the streets, you know, and you're going from place to place,
you're riding your board, you're seeing things that people in cars don't really always see,
you know, you're out there on the streets, like of course you're going to photograph,
you know, you're going to take street photographs because you're there, and if you're at a spot
and somebody comes up and they're really weird or they have some crazy look in their eye
or, you know, you're going to shoot their photograph, and I think it's just being on
the streets, and you can't be a street photographer if you're not in the streets, it's like it
doesn't work, you know.
