And I like to do work about all the things we're not supposed to talk about, like politics and religion and sex and drugs and all that kind of stuff.
I think those are like the most interesting things. I don't know why they keep us from talking about it.
My name is Albert Reyes and I like to draw. I make drawings and paintings on found wood and drawings on book covers.
I've been building the maze in the backyard about since 2004 for Halloween. I have a big Halloween party. I kept seeing pallets and couches and tables and desk and all this wood around the neighborhood and I'm like, I should just start gathering that stuff up and using it.
This is the front door but it doesn't really open. It's just there so this is the entrance here.
I just cut this out so I kind of build it just a bunch of walls and make the doors, cut out the doors and stuff.
See we got vodka, we got Campbell's soup and we got this book. Just a bunch of crap. A bunch of like nude women pictures from the 50s. Very large breasted women.
I take it different places and just assemble it, reorganize it so it's not really permanent. There's probably something always there in the backyard but it's never the same.
When you do artwork you create like an installation or something. You're creating your own little environment and you can show people whatever you choose to show them. So that's fun.
When people see the front of it they don't think it's going to be that big in here. They think it's just going to go in and go out but it's actually like a good amount of space in here.
I don't know the square footage but it's a good sized place. This is like another scare zone. You can get people from here or from the other side.
Bam! Grab people back tonight. Hit someone in the face one time.
This is blood dripping. It's paint but it's supposed to be blood. There's bras, spray paint cans, hatchets, rats. This is just like something to look at, something to trip out.
There'll be a lot of sound effects in here and also scroll blights. You can go into there too. I'm not going to go in there and show you though because a cat took a shit in there.
I get scared real easy. If I turn around and I forgot someone's behind me I get scared. Like a scaredy cat but it's fun.
I'm glad. I have some friends. They don't get scared. It's kind of boring not to be able to feel that.
When I'm dead, hopefully I'll have to be like, if I live another 20 years I'll be 60 so if I die when I'm 60, how much more crap can I accumulate in the backyard?
How much more crazier can I make it? So we'll see what happens.
That's my dream. If I die then it'll still be here and people can enjoy it.
