The main reason why design sports come to India is to give and train new batch of people
and to give the knowledge that we've accumulated or gained from previous experience.
Find people that you can train in that country that is relative to that culture and to train
another body that is going to be able to contribute to that particular sporting event.
It's like when we joined college in 2004, we were told by all of the professors that in 2009
we'll be out and that will be a huge blessing for you because Conwell Games will be around.
So it's like, it gets me a grip right because now I'm finally out of the college and I'm working
for Conwell Games which was the only thing which we could dream about when we joined architecture.
I joined here only for the international exposure for the name of the Conwell Games
but working here I have developed liking for sports. I'm working a point and also the kind
of exposure we are getting is excellent I think. Without the guidance of Sam and Baz,
I'm sure that this department would be impossible and I'm very excited about the game
which then they're going to happen. It gets us back feet. We are very anxious and excited also.
Which is just amazing how it you know transforming city as such you know when you look at the games
it has created a huge, huge world of people who have come in and in whatever way they can
they have supported the city to grow. You see the military line coming up. It's all because
of the sports coming up. Sports and entertainment infrastructure. So sports is just not you know
people, few people playing in an outdoor or indoor arena. It's like 10,000 people building up that
feeling and excitement that surrounds the within us and surrounds the city as such. A city has changed.
Indian market has just geared up just because of this event. There are a lot of job opportunities,
a lot of things going on all around the city. It will definitely make a mark something in this
field of sports because we have not done anything which can be like outstanding in the field of
sports but this is the opportunity for India to just mark their footprints. I really feel
you know they like it that at the times of the games the whole world will see our city so we are
really happy about that. Yeah actually waiting for that expression wherein all athletes will be
walking in and everything will be happening as we've decided or discussed or sorted out or whatever
and you're like very you're waiting for that moment to come. It's like for us being in this
organization is like a dream and we are actually leaving it so it's like an amazing feeling.
Because the games are in India and these are young running architects they really want to be a part of
the games and they really want to contribute. Really a wonderful experience being part of
common man games. Actually I've learned so much in this just managing the site you know it's completely
different prospect from the architecture and I learned a lot about it. Yeah and Baz and Sam are
so wonderful people it's really nice working with these guys they're so helpful whenever I just need
help they are there for me every time. But then Baz and I have sort of operated as an extension
of each other I think sometimes that and the briefing each other just getting on with the job
and it's key it's absolutely key to the success of what we do. Because it's high pressure unbelievably
high pressure because of the amount of money the organizing committee is investing because of the
seriousness of the job and because the time is what it is the lights were gone no matter what
and they're entrusting all this to us so you have to find a way to make it work. Yeah exactly.
In a serious way but also in a pleasant way. It is also an add-on to our own personality
not only in terms of work but in every other way. So we are getting more confident with the way and
the pressure that we are dealing and the way we are handling things. And one of the girls that is
working on our team actually she got praised by the sports authority of India one of the
representatives there and said you know you know more than operations you're the kind of person
that should be a venue manager. You've done you've got into this venue so much and you've
understood how everything works and that kind of makes you think that actually the way that we've
gone about training these people and not being so dogmatic about the way they they have to do
everything has made them feel more liberated and they've each engaged with whatever they've been
given in a totally different way which is I think part of the reason why the design school concept
is so strong because we haven't come here to be to tell them you have to do it like this.
They've gone and done it culturally their own way and we've faced whatever has come our way
based on the outcome of what we've advised them and if they haven't taken our direction and things
have come back in a different way we've advised them how to get over that because part of being
an architect as well is solving problems. The architects are trained to take care of
multidisciplinary areas they're not just taking care of their own area of how they're going to
build this particular part of the event they have to embrace all the 30 something clients
that we have within the organizing committee make everybody happy understand what everybody's role
is so that they can bring the puzzle together build or design all the planning of the event
then build all the structures and then answer any questions or anything that goes
for anything that goes wrong for any functional area. We can give the credit to Samantha also
because she has actually you know fed that confidence and actually actually we can stand
to our decisions at the time we have to Sam and Bas both have been like very supportive throughout
and how to even deal with people how to say talk in a meeting or what to say and what not to say
they have guided us with everything. The key element to the success of what we do is the personal
relationships. Real experience of a lifetime for us because working with such a professional
people also make us understand more about the profession and I think it's a dream come dream
come true for us. That's why I want to thank you know all the people who are involved especially
designs for us which has you know given me a platform to build upon what I think that
a venue should look like now I have a clear understanding of how venue functions you know
venues as such what excites me about venues there are 20,000 people coming in to just to
share one common goal it's amazing it's amazing how people you know that they just get bonded by
one common thing that is vote
you
