Now is the time to get down.
Man, where's your hat at, Mario?
Well, well, no hats today, no hats today, because it's a special day.
Besides being Earth Day, ladies and gentlemen.
It is that time, though, let me remind you.
It's 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, and this is Morning Coffee with Mario,
and we have the whole crew.
The whole crew, not just the partial crew here today, because we have a special guest.
Besides the tall, dark, handsome one, Victor Allen.
Fine-ass red-boned Danielle Holland.
Not a red-boned.
And the eclectic Empress de Vaux.
We have a special guest, ladies and gentlemen, Jerry Davis.
Jerry, who has a long history of involvement in the music industry.
Currently the music director over at Fox Sports, right?
Correct.
And Fox Sports Net, too.
It's not just Fox Sports.
That's right.
All right.
And a gentleman who has a lot of opinions.
It's just good to have your brother, good to meet you.
Because your history, I read your history, my man, and I'm impressed.
Well, thank you.
And I'm happy to be here.
Well, we can tell, you know.
And he said he wants to talk about some sports.
So, you know, we do a very informal, Jerry.
First, let's talk about you.
Let's tell everybody about this, man.
As I told you, he's the music director over at Fox Sports, and also at Fox Sports.
Next, he has a long history, if I look at my notes, he started at UC Berkeley, a prestigious institution.
Where you got involved with K-K-K-K-A-L-X, right?
Where you were doing some music, involved in the music industry.
Because he's been involved in wearing a bunch of hats, not just as a promoter, right?
Correct.
You opened a facility.
Correct.
For the band you were managing up there in Berkeley, and that facility ended up being
written by Metallica.
That's right.
Okay, now, all right, now, that's all right.
That's all right.
So, he's, see, what do we like about brothers like this?
They're the type who go about getting things done.
Yeah.
See, they go about getting things done.
You know, I like those kind of brothers.
They do.
That's why they wear all those hats.
Because they like to get things done.
So, this is a brother who wears all those hats.
Why don't we have Danny, we got him.
Not your average brother.
No.
Not your average brother.
No.
And one of the things here that I particularly like is that at one point he worked with
a label that focused on the management of producers.
So, you work with the people who make things happen.
Absolutely, yeah.
That's why we got you.
It's a lot easier.
A lot easier to do that.
Yeah, that's why we're going to, we're going to smooth you here.
With some doughnuts.
We need some more, you know, we get some more napkins for them and all that.
All right, but as everybody knows our morning coffee, we talk about the events that are
in the news, what we wake up and look at because it's totally unscripted and we do our best
just to gather the topics and the discussions for the day.
That's why we like to shoot from the hill.
And so we have to follow up the day because every morning, as you know, stuff is happening.
And this morning, again, your president is getting on the news, you know, because the
whole issue of the torch is do-do.
Okay, because it's this whole issue.
Let's remind our people.
The U.S. had people, you see, he's been flip-flopping a little bit, but as I have said on previous
broadcasts, if you do not change your position on some issues regularly, then you are really
an idiot.
Because as you learn more and the situations change, they require you sometimes to shift
your position, sometimes dramatically.
All of us have done that in our personal lives and in our business lives.
Okay, so this issue of torture came up because as you know, U.S. used techniques that are
considered torture, waterboarding.
We have specific individuals involved who signed memos.
The president made the decision, difficult decision, Jerry, to release those memos.
And then when he released the memos, talking about what the U.S. did as torture, I said,
well, you know, first of all, that's just the first step.
Because after this gets out there, people, the person who's already been out there in
the more radical community, they've been waiting to go after your former president for war crimes
and your former vice president.
So now that these torture memos are out there, initially he had said, and I zinged him on
this, if you guys remember, he said that they weren't going to prosecute.
They weren't going to prosecute members of the CIA who had followed orders.
And I said at that time, that's the same defense that's used in Nazi Germany, following orders.
I said, it's not going to fly.
Lo and behold, look what happened.
Total backlash, total backlash, international and national about this, about how you can't
just say you're not going to prosecute.
Then he took another step which I zinged him on.
He turned it over to your attorney general, Eric Holder said, well, we'll hear more from
the attorney general about this.
Well, as it comes back today, and more and more people jumping on the bandwagon on both
sides, former vice president Dick Cheney, he said he wants more stuff to come out initially
because he said he wants to prove how it helps.
So I need to get some feedback.
First of all, what do you guys think about the U.S. as how do we deal with being the bad guy?
Everybody wants it easy, right?
Remember, I said the president, I'm a supporter.
And I said that when you're thrust into these situations, sometimes it's the best of the negatives.
You have no good outcome.
There is no good choice because it's going to be harmful politically no matter what.
But what about you guys?
What about us being torturers?
Well, I'm not surprised.
I mean, you know, my issue, I'm not exactly a conspiracy theorist.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that.
But I mean, just relative to my age, you know, I was, I was, I'm almost 49.
I was born in 1960.
I've seen in my lifetime a lot of questionable things from the assassination of President Kennedy,
Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm, Iran, Contra Gay, I mean, and so on and so on and so on.
And, you know, I'm not surprised the torture took place.
I mean, you know, we know all about Cointel, Pro the Counterintelligence Program in the 1960s, 1970s,
how these organizations were infiltrated and, you know, used to disrupt and discredit, you know,
progressive organizations, manipulate the information.
So I, I actually am not surprised at all.
And I think that Obama needs to bring this out.
And I think that we need to be accountable.
I think that that's one of the most important things that not only society has to do, the government,
but I think as individuals, I think that there's, I think there's less accountability for our actions overall.
And I think that the more people become accountable, I think the more we can expect some change.
Well, let's poll, let's poll, let's start by polling that we obviously see where Jerry's in.
We know where he stands.
Now let's poll the other people in our group here because I know this is difficult.
First of all, I'll make it simple for you.
If you were the president, my team, and you knew about what's going on, would you have the first release to torture memos, Vic?
You know, here's the funny thing, because I believe certain things, certain conditions that they all pre-prepare for all these conditions.
And I believe in collateral losses, whether it's, you know, pro or con, it happens.
They're too, they're too strategic to not understand that they're going to get a backlash, how much is tolerable.
But I think this cat, excuse me, the president, is sharp enough.
The president!
That's right, the president!
I think he's sharp enough to be able to say, look, I won't let them isolate on that one topic,
because I'm going to be addressing other topics and drilling down deeply in them.
So you won't solely have to just deal with that only.
So to me, it's a matter of what he's going to reward the public while he's going through this.
Now, if I was the president, I'd be shot right now, because I'm not qualified.
So you would, so I'm not sure we got a total pit of death.
So you would release the red bomb?
I would, yeah, I would release it. I know I would release it.
Daniel?
Yeah, strategically.
Red bomb?
I think, personally, I think we need to focus, I mean, go through the process of this, because that's going to take years anyways.
But I think we need to focus on what's happening in America.
Here we go again.
Would you release the memos?
I would have leaked it, you know.
Leaked it?
No, not just released it.
No, wait, I would have tied it too.
I would have tied it to the obelisk that's, you know, on the small and what have you.
But for the most part, I would like for us, the American people, the government,
to focus on money and people that are starving out there, losing their homes.
Let's go through its process and what have you.
And let's put it this way.
If our laws say that we have to go ahead and prosecute and do this and go through this whole process of dragging these people, you know, down that lane, then that's what we do.
Well, see, now there's a tone that seems to be similar to what many in America have.
Now, notice that this is my sister, but they kind of don't want to deal with this, you know.
And you could, in other words, they will because they have to, but this is generally America, but you get the sense.
And I'm going to ask why Dave DeVoe will break your, because I'm coming to you, baby.
I'm coming to you.
But they kind of don't, even if you heard from Danielle, she'd rather focus on some other things.
And a lot of people say that I'd rather focus on, but this is important for the future.
And I'm giving you a breather, DeVoe, again, why?
Because the idea that you come after people after the fact is to shape the direction for the future.
So the next time someone who's alone with that prisoner won't be thinking, I could do whatever the hell I want with him.
They'll be thinking, I can't just say I will follow orders.
