the
Is that good?
Is that good?
Can't pass?
No?
Okay, so much for the GPS.
Alright, so we're very stuck.
Let's try to turn here.
Okay, turn off the camera.
Shit, I have to go back all the way.
Yeah.
To make things even more interesting,
today we are crossing from the northern part of the Everglades
to the southern part of the Everglades.
And the only way to cross from one side to the other
is either through a narrow channel,
which is called a nightmare,
because at low tide it becomes impassable.
So basically you can get stuck there for four hours or so
until the high tide comes back.
Or we can actually go through the ocean.
But that is also treacherous because it has high winds
and high waves if it can capsize the boat.
We don't know what the best solution is.
Is that the guy from last night, you think?
It must be.
I think he's coming for seconds.
He must have liked what he had last night.
And now he seems to be going to the other shore
for the yummy birds.
Now you are the first one to go into the water.
Now that's the entrance to the nightmare.
We are on Broad River and we are turning left onto the nightmare.
We'll give it a try.
We decided to take the nightmare instead of the Gulf Coast route.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
We have to be careful not to lose balance with these branches.
You don't want to fall into the water here for sure.
Check the water level.
What are you doing mate?
Is this our camp?
What are you doing mate?
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Check the water level.
Our canoe once again is full of everything including the kitchen sink.
But that's good because I'm actually very, very, very hungry.
This is our dinner, especially for my birthday.
I caught a fish and now we are having a nice roast fish.
Check the water level.
Morning on December 27th, 2010.
Yesterday we had another rough day.
We couldn't film almost at all because it was so windy.
As a matter of fact, the wind took our boat and it caused a lot of damage.
I'm not sure if the boat will still float.
It might be leaking now.
We have bad news and the bad news is that upon visual inspection at least, the boat has a major crack.
Right above the water line, it's right here.
So the water will go through.
Now we have to try to patch it a bit.
We are only 58 miles away from where we should go.
58 miles of water.
A few days and we have a major crack in the boat.
So we have to fix it somehow.
I'm not sure exactly how because I don't have any tools or any material to fix it.
So the only way to do it, we're going to try to melt some plastic from one of our tent.
Stakes.
Stakes and try to fill the hole if melted.
I don't know if it's going to work, but we're going to try.
All right, let's try.
Give it a match.
Having dinner at Highland Beach again.
This is our third night and we had to stay here for another day because we got stuck.
The wind was pretty rough. There was a lot of chop and we were afraid that our boat would take in a lot of water.
So we had to stay and have a night.
Tomorrow we'll attempt to leave with the high tide in the morning about 6 a.m.
I'm happy we made it out of Highland Beach.
That was like a trap. We got trapped at Highland Beach for four days.
And I'm happy the weather allowed us to go.
And also the boat seems to hold on.
The duct tape is holding.
It's very cold, by the way. Our feet are wet and cold, but there's no other way.
We're on fire.
We're on fire.
