The pursuit of our interests can take us to so many places and expose us to so many
different situations. Sports, in particular freestyle sports, often have the ability to
take us to places that most people only dream about. My name is Jordan and I'm in search of an
adventure. Though I'm trading winter in Adelaide for a sunny 27 degrees further north, I'm off to
spend three weeks travelling down the Queensland coast from Port Douglas to the Gold Coast with
PKRA World Champion, an all-round nice guy, Andy Yates.
I've just driven up from Townsville, just past Cairns now. I picked up Jordan from the airport
in transit north to Port Douglas. Unfortunately, I was hoping that the skies were going to clear up
from Townsville, but they haven't. In fact, they've probably gone to Cairns.
But there's a little bit of wind around, so if we're lucky, we're going to Port Douglas
and we'll get a bit of a close-up.
I've driven up from Townsville, just past Cairns now.
I think I'm going to have a bad time if I launch.
So we're at Rex Point Lookout now. I was almond and iron for the last 10 minutes
to launch the paraglider off here. I don't know whether it was the probably 15-20 knots up here
or the fact that I've never been here before and there's no one else here, so maybe that's a sign.
But yeah, I reckon we're going to give it a miss this time and wait for some other
sessions down south for the paragliding. I think I'm going to merge with those trees behind me.
So we've stopped off at Cairns Cable Park. Although it's only a few hours up the road,
I've never been here before. So yeah, by the looks of it, I've got some good features and
obstacles. So yeah, I haven't ridden a circuit cable for a while. So yeah,
came to get out there and see if I can still get these things.
So we're in transit to York Hill Knob now, still in Cairns.
Haven't been here for like maybe five years or something. My parents took me up here when the
sunny coast winds was not delivering wind. So we came up here as a family trip. But yeah,
it'd be good to get back here and I think there's a nice estuary that runs out and
nice flat water. So my memory is correct. I think we're in first some more high quality.
But yeah, find out soon.
We're on Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef. We've left the miserable conditions in Cairns
and we've actually arrived at not the sunniest day, but like by far and away better than Cairns.
And the winds on point now and it's looking really strong. So I'm going to pump a 10 now,
which I haven't used in a very long time, coming up in North Queensland. So yeah, got
some flat water and sun and honking on for a 10 meter. So yeah.
Yeah.
Good for us because, you know, we can escape the murky waters and get out to
some clear pristine waters and coral. So it's a good change up.
Yeah.
Green Island's about an hour boat ride from the mainland Cairns. So I think it's the closest
point proximity wise to the mainland and then outside this, there's obviously more Great Barrier
Reef, but this is like the first point of the Great Barrier Reef and the most accessible.
So we've spent the day at Yarraba. Basically, we've had the best experience ever. We arrived
at the Queensland Ambulance Services Station and met up with Yarraba, Paramedics, Pat, Richard
and Laven. So this morning we were lucky enough to check out the Yarraba Primary School. We actually
were fortunate enough to meet the principal and he showed us around. We went into a year two class
and one of the local indigenous teachers was running a class and teaching the children some
words. This is a story of two men came from North. They traveled day and night, two brothers.
They're looking for a suitable place to sleep and eat.
