The start of spring begins, falls each year between about February 3rd and about February
5th.
About 45 days after that is when the official spring equinox starts.
That's certainly a time when it's still very cold outside, but the instincts start to move
their wings a little bit more.
The fish are a little bit more active under the ice, and I can tell you here in Virginia
there was ice on the windshield of our car this morning as I got out to try and move
it.
But a warm spring breeze is coming our way, and it's about that warm spring breeze that
I want to talk to you today.
My question is, will you be ready for it?
The senior bodies of ours be ready, are older, certainly, but better bodies.
And it's about getting better too, about the willingness to wear shorts as it starts to
get a little bit warmer, to wear take tops too, and shudder even swimsuits.
So today we're going to talk a little bit about some tips that I have on getting our
winter bodies out of winter mode and into a more spring-like condition.
Only during the winter months, when it's cold outside, I eat comfort food, and I usually
put on about four to five pounds.
I did that this winter.
I'm human.
Absolutely.
As part of our series, Grooming for the 55-plus-age community, here are my tips for getting ready
for the spring months ahead, as well as some.
Tip number one, exfoliate.
Use a dry brush, as well as using a brush in the shower.
Let me show you this.
This is the brush I use, and you can see it's a little bit shop-worn, and it also goes with
me into the shower.
You can use it for circular motion.
You can do it on the palms.
You can do it on your calves, and your biceps, and your thighs.
Of course, this helps release toxins, but it also wakes up the senses.
It starts to improve the circulation.
It makes your skin just glow.
Tip number two, comb your hair.
Make sure and use a nice brush with good bristles on it, and brush and massage the scalp.
You can use your fingers, too, but certainly start at the top, move towards the center,
go back and forth.
You can also get that good fingertip massage going, and that really is going to offer you
a gentle massage that's going to stimulate an awful lot of just blood flow up into that
upper head area, and starting to move that brain muscle a little bit.
In addition to moving the brain muscle, you're going to start to exercise a little bit more.
Get out there for 20 to 30 minutes each day, and try to sweat a bit, well, more than just
a bit.
I say that as someone who sweats more than just a bit.
Tip number four, eat better.
Make your dinner lean, mean, and green.
Do the obvious, of course.
Avoid fake sugar.
Avoid some of those low-fat or traditional diet foods.
What?
Avoid the diet foods?
Yeah, absolutely.
Avoid those diet foods because they have zero nutritional value.
This is all about eating lean and green.
You want to make sure and be clean too.
Lastly, tip number five, smile.
It's really one of the best things that you can do, and it offers both this life-enriching
kind of beauty, but it adds confidence, and it gives you this sense.
Just the pure physical act of smiling is really great for your entire body.
Even better, your smile doesn't even have to be real.
You can fake your way right through smiling, and you'll still get some of those great results.
Smiling more is a great thing for your life, and it doesn't even cost you any amount of
money whatsoever.
You can do it, you can enjoy it, and those around you can benefit from it too.
You can even fake it if you want to, and you can get the same big results.
So again, I ask you the question, who wouldn't want these benefits?
Keep up with your spring training, treat your body with the right nutrition, get the right
skin care in place, exfoliate, and certainly get the right smile, but remind yourself it's
okay not to be perfect.
With a nod to a very funny man and sadness at his recent passing, Don Rickles, the king
of insult comedy, says this, you know, every night when I go out there on stage there's
always a nagging fear in the back of my mind.
I'm always afraid that somewhere out there in the audience there is one person, just
one person out there, that I'm not going to offend.
So nobody's perfect, and of course I mean no offense, and hope you all have great spring,
summer, and are all getting better as we're getting older.
Thanks so much, and remember, keep up the nice work.
