I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of life
and see if I could not learn what I had to teach and not.
When I came to die, I discovered that I had not lived.
I did not wish to live for what was not life, living is so dear.
Nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary.
I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life,
to live so sturdily and spartan-like as to put to route all that was not life,
to cut a broad swathe and shave close, to drive life into a corner
and reduce it to its lowest term.

We need the tonic of wildness.
At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things,
we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable.
That land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomable by us,
because unfathomable.
We can never have enough of nature.
Music
Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been,
I have great faith in a seed.
Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.
Music
We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake,
not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn,
which does not forsake us even in our sound asleep.
Music
I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of a man
to evaluate his life by a conscious endeavor.
It is something to be able to paint a particular picture,
or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful.
Music
But it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere
and medium through which we look, which morally we can do.
To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.
Music
Give us live in the present. Launch yourself on every wave.
Find your eternity in each moment.
Full stand on their island of opportunities and look toward other land.
There is no other land. There is no other life but this.
