New evidence validating the Shroud of Turin.
The United Methodist Church rules against an openly gay bishop and North Korea warns
of nuclear consequences.
It's Skywatch TV for Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017.
I'm Derek Gilbert.
First up, severe storms brought flash flooding and tornadoes across the Midwest and Mid-South
over the weekend.
Those storms moved east Sunday after leaving a trail of destruction across East Texas,
Southwest Missouri, and on into Central Illinois.
At least six people were killed, dozens more were injured.
The line of storms in Texas that spawned tornadoes brought strong winds, thunderstorms, torrential
rains across Missouri, rivers across the state, even today as we record this on Tuesday morning
at or just past Record High Crests, the James River at Galena, the Gaskinade at Lebanon,
the Sack River at Kaplanur Mills, and near Record Crests on the Meramec River in St. Louis
and Jefferson counties have caused the closings of Interstate 44 at several points through
Missouri.
Interstate 55 in South County, St. Louis, may be closed soon.
Other state highways closed where they crossed the Meramec River.
Parts of the city of Valley Park in Southwest St. Louis County were evacuated by mandatory
order.
Parts of Valley Park that is protected by a levy evacuated Monday as the waters are expected
to top the levy and enter the town.
In other news, North Korea's regime is defying calls from the US, Japan, China, South Korea,
and Russia to stop nuclear weapons tests.
Kim Jong-un warned he would speed up to the maximum its measures for bolstering its nuclear
deterrent in response to what it calls the US's increasing aggression and hysteria.
This is according to a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson who released a statement
through the official Korean Central News Agency.
North Korea has carried out five nuclear tests and a series of missile tests recently in
contravention, defiance of UN Security Council, and other resolutions.
It's been conducting tests at an unprecedented rate for the rogue state, and it's believed
to have made progress in developing intermediate range and submarine-launched missiles.
You can see the rate of tests here conducted by Kim Jong-un, his father, and grandfather,
Kim Jong-il, and Kim Il-sung.
The nation test launched a missile on Saturday, which failed according to the US and South
Korea, but still the tests are ongoing.
Speaking of testing, Russia testing a new weapon, it's a 14.7-ton robot tank.
The Viker remote-controlled tank, 22 feet long, stands 10 feet 10 inches high, weighs
about 14.7 tons, and features a 30-millimeter automatic gun and six anti-tank guided missiles.
It can also be equipped with other machine guns or a flamethrower.
It is operated remotely by a driver who uses a camera in the tank and also drones overhead
to get a big picture view of the battlefield.
But not to be outdone, the US Marines are testing robots and hyper-subs for landings
on enemy beaches.
Unlike 1944, D-Day, it's a lot harder these days with satellites in the air and in space
to sneak up on an enemy's beach.
And so the Marines are testing out the use of robots to actually establish a beachhead
before soldiers arrive.
The danger here in all of this testing of lethal weapons, lethal robots, is that we
turn over the decisions of life and death over what to shoot to an autonomous artificial
intelligence, turning them into what are called laws, lethal autonomous weapons systems.
That is a bad idea.
It appears one of the fruits of the so-called Arab Spring of several years ago is the emergence
of slave markets again in North Africa.
According to a report by the UN Migration Agency, Libyan rebels are capturing poor Africans
trying to get to Europe, putting them in cheap housing in parking lots, makeshift prisons,
and then selling them on the open market like in days of old.
Prisoners sold for slaves can go for as little as $100.
In Libya, typically, a slave will bring $200 to $500 a piece.
This is according to survivors who talked to the UN Migration Agency.
So far, the UN has, just in the last few months, arranged to return 1,500 survivors back to
their homes, places like Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia.
Libya is a gateway from Africa into Italy.
It's the closest point across the Mediterranean.
Immigrants of migrants routinely having to be rescued by Europeans.
An estimated 25,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean Sea from Libya so far this
year.
And although Italy has taken steps to try to slow the flow of immigrants into Europe,
data suggests that the crossings are on pace to match last year's when 182,000 Africans
crossed and landed at Italy.
Interesting note, the violent ongoing conflict between Egypt and the Islamic State, which
is set up in the Sinai Peninsula, is, according to one military analyst, a reenactment of
the ancient confrontation between Israel and the Amalekites.
This is according to the chief editor of DEBCA file, which is an Israeli military intelligence
website.
Now, according to the book of Exodus, the Israelites confronted first on their exodus
from Egypt, the nation of Amalek, migrant wanderers who were a thorn in the side of
the Israelites all the way up through the days of Saul.
The first battle took place in the valley of Refidim in the Egyptian desert.
The editor of DEBCA file, Giora Seamus, says there's a biblical context for what ISIS,
the Islamic State, is doing now against Egypt.
Although he is not religious, he says the correlation between ISIS and Amalek is clear
and should be taken into account when considering modern events.
What happened thousands of years ago is being replayed again, a continuation of what already
happened there historically.
Interesting that we have secular analysts who are looking to the Bible for analysis on modern
day political and military events.
The former head broadcaster of Arutz Sheva in Israel, Shay Ben-Tacoa, says Amalek is
an archetype for ISIS.
He says that ISIS can trace its military and ideological heritage from the Amalekites.
Now I would suggest that the Amorites who predate the Amalekites by at least a thousand
years are a better model, but I won't argue the point.
I think the interesting thing here again is that you've got secular analysts who are finding
value in the Bible as a guide to understanding what's happening in the world today.
What they're missing, of course, is the spiritual source that is basically behind the conflicts
taking place and the spiritual source behind the Islamic State.
They will never understand the Islamic State until they understand that.
Here in the US, President Trump is telling foreign leaders that NAFTA, the North American
Free Trade Agreement, can stay for now.
It wasn't clear whether he will still sign an executive order that was reportedly drafted
last week to authorize renegotiation of NAFTA, which he during the campaign called the worst
trade deal ever signed by the United States.
As soon as word broke of the draft executive order, his phone began to ring.
Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada, the President of Mexico on the line saying, please, don't
do this.
The Mexican peso dropped in trading after news broke midday Wednesday of the White House
draft executive order, and Justin Trudeau called President Trump twice on Tuesday and
on Wednesday to discuss the change in the trade relationship between the US and Canada.
Last Tuesday, the Trump administration announced it was going to impose a tariff on Canadian
soft lumber and retaliation for what it says is unfair treatment of American dairy farmers.
Now, the mainstream media is going to report this as Trump waffling or careening from policy
to policy, depending on which advisor has had his ear.
I look at this as a master negotiator who is setting a bar here in order to get what
he wants, which is really here.
Keep your eye on this space.
Trump knows what he's doing.
And other people getting nervous about what President Trump is up to are the banksters.
As Bloomberg reported, President Trump said he's actively considering breaking up the
giant Wall Street banks by returning to the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, which was repealed,
and led to the excesses that caused the meltdown of the financial industry in 2007, 2008, 2009.
You can see the immediate result of the President's comments on the chart behind me.
The arrow pointing down was immediately after news of Trump's thoughts were made public.
Look, if they're too big to fail, they're too big to live.
Coming up, the United Methodist Church rules against an openly lesbian bishop.
That's next on Skywatch TV.

The United Methodist Church has ruled that the consecration of an openly gay bishop violates
church law.
In a 6-3 vote, the Church's Judicial Council found that a married lesbian bishop named
Karen Alavado, Dr. Karen Alavado, and those who appointed her violated their, and I quote,
commitment to abide by and uphold the Church's definition of marriage and stance on homosexuality,
end quote.
However, Bishop Alavado remains in good standing, the Judicial Council ruled, until an administrative
or judicial process is completed.
So what?
This is double secret probation?
The Western jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church elected and consecrated Alavado last
year in defiance of church law.
She was assigned to oversee about 400 churches in the Western states.
The United Methodist Church, which is the second largest Protestant denomination in
the U.S., is divided over homosexuality.
Methodist doctrine officially is that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible
with Christian teaching.
I mean, it's pretty clear in the Bible, but there are many clergy members in the UMC
coming out as openly gay or endorsing supporting an openly gay lifestyle.
The church and the Judicial Council has, again, sort of kicked the can down the road.
The church is set to deal with the issue of homosexuality at a special conference taking
place in February of 2019 in St. Louis.
The Supreme Court has again rejected a challenge to California's ban on so-called gay conversion
therapy.
The justices did not comment Monday in turning away an appeal from a San Diego minister and
others who argued that the law violated their First Amendment religious freedoms.
Federal Appeals Court in San Francisco had previously upheld the law in dismissing the
constitutional challenge.
Governor Jerry Brown signed that ban into effect in late 2012, and since then the Supreme
Court has rejected efforts to upend the ban and a similar ban in the state of New Jersey.
I must just not be very smart because I just can't track with the logic of a group of students
at Pomona College in California who recently wrote an open letter to the school's outgoing
president claiming that the idea that there is a single truth is a myth and white supremacy.
The letter was written by three self-identified black students and signed by 30 others, claims
that, and I quote, historically white supremacy has venerated the idea of objectivity as a
means of silencing oppressed peoples, end quote.
Seriously, continuing, quote, the idea that there is a single truth, the truth, is a construct
of the Euro West that is deeply rooted in the Enlightenment, which was a movement that
also described black and brown people as both subhuman and impervious to pain.
This letter was quoted in a story in the Clermont Independent, quoting again, this construction
is a myth, a myth and white supremacy, imperialism, colonization, capitalism, and the United
States of America are all of its progeny, end quote, look.
Truth is not a myth.
In fact, it is the opposite of myth and maybe I'm just too far removed from college to understand
what they're grasping at, but it seems to me that these students, whether they realize
it or not, understand that truth and myth are at the opposite ends of the spectrum too,
because otherwise they wouldn't have written to the college president that it is an absolute
objective truth that what they said and they wouldn't be openly declaring anyone else's
views to be objectively wrong.
This is what's passing for education in our colleges today.
Churchgoers in Mexico are claiming a miracle after a statue of Jesus apparently moved its
head during mass, footage taken on a cell phone camera recorded by a member of the congregation
shows the figure behind me, which is a crucifix, Jesus on a cross, moving its head during the
service from here to here.
This was at the church of Santa Ana in Tepititlan in western Mexico.
The video clip, of course, has gone viral, it made national headlines in Mexico.
But parish priest Juan Antonio Guerra Lule had another explanation.
Apparently this 300-year-old statue of Jesus is brought out of the glass coffin that it's
normally kept in.
Why?
The tomb is empty, you know?
Anyway, every year as a tradition on St. Friday, they put it up on the cross.
And the fur rope that holds it to the cross slipped and the head drooped.
Can you say lying sign and wonder?
Speaking of, film director Ridley Scott is claiming that there are really aliens out
there and we'd better be careful because we don't want to meet them.
He is getting ready for the release of his sixth or the sixth film in the Alien series
called Alien Covenant, a significant title, which is coming out next month.
Scott is quoted as saying, I believe in superior beings.
I think it is certainly likely.
Unfortunately, for him, it appears that God is not one of the superior beings that he
believes in.
As we said yesterday during the interview with Dr. Michael Heiser, people are more likely
to believe in the gospel of E.T. here in America, or at least more likely to believe that we're
being visited by extraterrestrials than to believe in the God of the Bible.
I mean, the fact that the United Methodist Church can't say you violated the Bible, you're
no longer a member of the church is evidence of that.
Anyway, this new film coming out is the second prequel to the 1979 film that starred Sigourney
Weaver.
Pretty much what you'd expect, Journey in Space and Violence and Seuss.
There is evidence to believe that superior beings do exist and have walked among us.
The Shroud of Turin is one of those bits of evidence, and here's a new little piece to
that puzzle.
An expert on ancient Roman coins says he's identified the type of coin on the eyes of
the man in the shroud, and it's consistent with someone who died in the early part of
the first century A.D.
Agostino Svarazza, a numismatist, that's an expert in coins, says that the coins were
minted in the days of Pontius Pilate in the year A.D.
29.
Images of the coins were first observed back in 1976 when the shroud was examined with
3D projection techniques for the very first time.
Researchers noticed the small bulges, rather, where there shouldn't be any on a human.
The hypothesis working here is that these are coins of small denomination used in the
first century in Judea called leptons.
Now, besides the drawings that have been made of these bulges, researchers believe
they can see the letters Y-K-A-I on the coins, which would be consistent with the Greek words
for Tiberius Caesar, who was the emperor of Rome between the years 14 A.D. and 37 A.D.
And it's probable that Jesus was crucified, died, and rose again in 32 A.D.
Again, consistent with a man who died in the early part of the first century.
