Hey, welcome to First Look. Today we're checking out Canon's new Cinema 4K Ready primes. These
compact primes come in a 24mm 1.5, a 50mm 1.3, and an 85mm 1.3. These lenses are 4K
Ready. They're perfect for the C500 made by Canon, the Red Epic, the new F55 and F5 by Sony.
These lenses are EF mount. They're perfect for your C100, C300, and the 500. They're also gonna
improve the image quality of your 5D Mark III. These lenses are 2.5 pounds. A lot of the weight
is coming from Canon's choice to make this quick of a lens. It's an extremely fast lens. They're
faster than the Zeiss Compact primes. They're a T1.3. Very impressive. They have a full metal housing
and an angular rotation of 300 degrees. This really is a true professional Cinema Prime. So
enough for the specifications. Let's see these lenses in action. So the first thing we noticed
about these lenses were how sharp they were. They almost pull your subject's eyes right out of the
frame. And with their shallow depth of field at a 1.3, you'll notice that your subject's nose
and even their ears are already out of focus when their eyes are just popping. We've been extremely
impressed with the color and the contrast that these lenses allow you to capture in your Mark III
or in higher end of cameras. The 24mm has a minimum focal distance of 12 inches. That's practically
a macro lens. Your 50mm has a minimum focal distance of 19 inches. Something you'll notice
right off the bat is the bokeh. Each lens has 11 iris blades and it produces nearly perfect bokeh.
It gives you a real cinematic look. If you're trying to capture a stylistic lens flare, I really
like the lens flares that these lenses produce. If you're a DSLR filmmaker, you're more than familiar
with these lens gears. These are great but they don't pull focus accurately. You have no way of
telling how far your subject really is and so you're kind of pulling focus blind. You will
appreciate these lens gears if you're an AC or even if you're a director. You want to have your
subject can focus all the time. You don't want to be second guessing and seeing on your monitor
that you're out of focus then pulling in focus. Now with the cinema lenses that Canon's making,
you have a 300 degree angular rotation and you can be pinpoint accurate on your focus.
Canon did a great job with the torque and the resistance on these lens gears. They feel so
smooth and perfect and it's so easy to pull focus. Something I've always been frustrated with was how
you had to use a scroll wheel on the back of your camera to adjust your aperture. With these lenses,
they have a manual iris and so you're able to go and adjust smoothly between overexposed or
underexposed images and you can actually change your aperture in the middle of a shot which is so
important. Thanks for watching this first look. I hope you come into PictureLine and check out
these Cinema Prime lenses for yourself. You can also find these lenses on PictureLine.com.
