I'm always sidetracked when I'm surfing. I think about snowboarding and when I'm
snowboarding I think about the best day surfing and being on the beach. So they
both complete each other and I love them as much. When I was little with my
parents we traveled a little bit and we went and did a bit of camping but my
big dream was to travel the world and yeah when I started snowboarding and I
went to become a professional snowboarder I thought I could travel the world
for free and snowboard so that was my one of my biggest dreams. The first time I
ever got on a plane was to come to Whistler so that was one of the most
exciting things in my life when I was 16 was to come to Whistler for the first
time and step on a plane. I slowly got time to travel and a bit of money and
yeah I started traveling in third-world countries where it'd be cheaper for me
to be traveling than to be home and so it allowed me to save money while I was
gone instead of being one of the most expensive places in the world and it's
sunny and warm people are nice and the food's good. I just love seeing how
people live at other places see different things and span my mind and see
that there's not only one way to live which is the way we see around us and
yeah especially going to warm countries I really like the way they live there the
simple life how they don't need that much and surfings allowed me to really
experience like a simpler life and then when I come back to Canada I really
notice how materialistic our lives are. One of the coolest things about traveling
is the people you meet and how creative people are and they've made it work
anything that's not following what society says to do and following a nine
to five job anything that's really creative or people that start new
businesses to me all that is so interesting and yeah I'm really curious
to learn more that's what I really admire. I usually do a big long surf trip
before the season starts and then I always check the snow forecast to see if
I should go home or not and if it's not snowing at home then I stay at the
beach and surf. The window for good snow is really short so when that window is
there 100% committed and looking at forecast everywhere to see like where
there's good snow how good whistler is going to be and I really want to be there
when the snow is good. The best place to check the snow forecast would be from
the beach. Hawaii to whistler would take you the flight is five hours and a half
direct overnight so you could be there overnight. If you're far Indonesia you're
looking at two three days you have to pay for the nine day snow forecast so I
usually have snow forecast whistler black on forecast rebel stove the valley
forecast and I'll kind of read them all year so I know which spots have good
snow packs what the avalanche conditions are doing and where all the girls are to
meet up with and if none of that works then I know which friends are where
surfing then you can book a quick flight to Hawaii pretty cheap. The more you
travel the more you meet travelers and the more people around the world you
have to connect with and stay at their house and it makes traveling actually
really cheap. Friends always hook you up and you hook them up when they come so
it's super fun. Some of my friends from Hawaii come here we do exchanges where
when I go there they let me crash on their couch and they take me with their
jet skis and when they come here it's vice versa they can take all my gear and
take them up on the mountain and take in snowmobiling so it's cool exchanges it
was fun to have our Mexican friends come here that had never been on the hill
or never seen snow and finally they were the one really bad at something we
could laugh at them so that really makes you feel good you know I'm sure you're
the one that spends months out of your element where you can't talk the
language you can't dance you can't surf and people constantly laugh at you it's
fun when you can return that favor. I can speak a bit of Spanish and a bit of
Indonesian. Can we enter bike? That means you're the best.
Sampai Jumpa. Let's see you later.
Tayan Kanta. I think is the... do you love it?
Speak a bit of Australian.
Oh yeah! Oh yeah mate!
What else did they say?
