On this month's My Style, we speak to an exciting new artist whose career was born
in her Bronx bedroom. At the age of 13, she was uploading videos to YouTube and received
over 3 million views. That's right. She was then snapped up by one of my idols, Mr.
Pharrell Williams, and later went on to release her debut EP, Mood Sweets, which is out right
now. An incredible voice and interesting style makes her the perfect bread candidate, which
gives me great pleasure to introduce to you, Ms. Maxine Hashley.
The style means to me, it's a meaning to express yourself, to be very comfortable with who you
are and what you're putting on your body. It's just your mood, how you feel, whatever, whatever you like.
First and foremost, I want to talk about your style. It's very loud, it's quite intimidating,
I'm going to say, which I love. You've never heard that before, right? No, I've never heard that before.
But yeah, no, I think it's really cool, it's really retro. Talk to me a little bit about the stuff
that's kind of in your wardrobe and style on a day-to-day basis. I have random, just random
mess shit in my closet. Anime tights, a lot of plaid stuff, a lot of comfortable baggy stuff with some coolness, like, oh, this is dope. It's got some coolness.
In New York, I don't see that much people trying anymore, like, at least they're hidden or somewhere, they're all in Brooklyn or some shit,
but every time we get on the trains, like, the Bronx is very old school, they stood in there fucking with the same white-ups and baggy pants and all that.
Obviously, people are going to ask you a lot about the whole for real thing, being assigned to him, what it's like to work with him, but what I want to know is,
what's the most inspiring thing that you think you've learned from him so far?
Hard work pays off, because he's always working every time I see him, he's working on something, and loving what you do.
Every single day, cold, snow, hot, summer.
And you don't get cold in these, right?
No.
There's a lot of leggings on show, please.
You could put leggings on those if you want to be who you should be.
See, most of the items that I love, I got for free, in, like, a photo shoot or something.
Is that the secret?
Is that the secret?
It's the secret.
The photo shoots, and they be like, here, and I be like, oh, thank you.
Usually, like, when I'm out on the streets, I don't really think about what people think about what I'm wearing.
It's just how I want to rock it, unless I'm high, and then I'm just like, oh, shoot, what do I wear?
Just those days, you know, when you just walk out your house, and you're like, what the fuck did I put this shirt on with these shoes?
But, you know, it was all about experimenting and just having fun with what you do.
