I
Mean I live for music I started playing the cello when I was was very young and ever since that day
I've just never stopped thinking about music wanting to play music wanting to hear music
that's the thing that drives me and especially just being able to stand in front of an orchestra
my name is Jason lie and I'm the principal conductor of the young siltoe conservatory orchestra which is based in Singapore
and I have this wonderful job of standing in front of this orchestra twice a week rehearsing them
making taking them through some really really great music some of these kids have never played in orchestra before
so it's a real privilege to take them on the first steps
oops
okay thank you very good
just just for the strings I found the tone color at tempo one is a little bit too
too thin it's too it's too much of a diet I need a bit more fat please
can it be even quieter
this is an international conservatory so you have students from all over the world from from China from Australia from America even
first violin's
violas to be very frightening
I think that's better
it's very physical work I won't lie to you
don't rush don't rush
Brahms is difficult music to play it's very dense very calorific very thick sounding
and it takes a lot of energy from them and from me to perform this music and bam
I want you to conduct tell them yes here we go 87 3
you do all the hard work in the rehearsals everything every every eye has to be dotted every T has to be crossed
but come the concert you don't speak you just you just get on the podium and you have this orchestra in front of you
you started off and you hope that they just have listened in rehearsals and they just deliver
I'm providing a safety net during the rehearsals so come the concert they can just jump
great wonderful
