What's up, this is Alex Chapman, I'm chilling with Noah aka Zafoon Jones, is that right?
That's correct.
And this is Chitty.
What's up?
My name is Chitty.
It's a wonderful thing.
It's personal foremost, I have to ask you because Zafoon Jones is like so far from the name
Noah, so you have to explain how you got that nickname.
My friend Pat made it up, I never really wanted to be like DJ this or that, just as a personal
thing.
And when we grew up together and Philly and my friend Pat and then when we went to college,
he told everybody that was my name.
So you guys were in college together, were there any crazy Chitty Bang times, any I
love college Chitty Bang times?
I'll tell you, Zafoon was just getting money somehow, I'm not really going to specify.
I'm not going to specify how he was getting money, but he was the dude that was making
it really happen.
I was sort of like not a ladies man, but trying to be and bailing, obviously.
One time we had a show on 50th and Cedar, which is like deep, deep West Philly.
And it was me, Ted, and my boy, who was from Brock, just another one of my own here.
The cops pulled up and they think that we was robbing the White Half.
So as we were standing there, the cops pulled up, guns drawn, they just come straight up.
You know what I'm saying, get on the ground, put your hands up, we don't know what to do
at this point, and my boy had a 40, you know, he had a 40.
I'm aware of what a 40 is.
The cops saw that they were like, whoa, whoa, they thought it was a gun and like, put that
thing down, put that thing down, he was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, no.
He was like hiding it behind the back because he didn't want to get busted for a thing,
so they thought that we had some more of a plan to stick up, so he was like, oh, I don't
have nothing, but it was about 25 minutes to resolve it.
We had our, and we had our drummer, our friend Zach, you know, I'm the manager, we were
paying, everything was okay, like, bye bye.
We wasn't there at all, man.
We were not there.
A little bit of a whole nother, whole nother story.
So, we, I've seen that you guys have a great video, Good Life, which is out, and you know,
it's been out for a minute.
Tell me a little bit about how you guys came up with the concept for that video.
I think our manager sort of was like, you know what, I want to direct the next video.
We let him do that one.
Okay, okay.
We like that.
Take that one.
It's an album time.
It's us.
It's like, you rock out, EP time, go for it, you know.
I think we should just highlight the silliness of me kidnapping Chitty and putting him in
the trunk.
Yeah.
So, you know, we try to go for likely, you think it's a standard kind of hip hop video
with another little twist on it.
But then you're taking him in the trunk.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, there's quite a few beautiful women in that video, I would say.
You guys did a good job.
Nice job there.
So, you guys have probably have a nice groupie following from time to time.
Maybe not groupies, young women.
I'm sure.
I know he's going to be like, it's all of you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's all he ever said.
So, have you guys had any weird groupie experiences like strange stalker women?
We don't.
We don't.
We never actually had any like stalker moments, but our booking agent has this like one stalker
lady in Texas who's like obsessed with, because our booking agent, his partner works with
Mike Posner and she's like obsessed with Mike Posner.
Oh, okay.
I wouldn't call her a stalker.
Oh, it's persistent.
She's just persistent.
I'm trying to be nice.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, one of the things I want to ask you guys, you obviously are big up and coming.
Everybody's looking at Chitty Bang right now, loving the music.
Who, everyone's looking at me right now, really.
But, who do you guys want to get in the studio with and who have you gotten in the studio
with that it felt like a real honor and privilege?
Pharrell was definitely.
How do you know what that was like?
It was crazy.
We went out to LA, you know what I'm saying?
And, you know, there's actually a video vlog that we did.
We were working on it.
And the show was us.
We were in LA, in and out.
And we were like, what is the, what is going to come with this video session?
And we didn't really know.
We were thinking, Chitty, we go in and we create some dope-ish.
Pharrell, it was definitely a learning experience.
From the production side, I think we learned a lot.
Just to be in the same room and understand how we think.
So, lots of fun.
Final thoughts after this great interview that we had.
Tell me about what we should expect for the new album this coming year, 2011.
2010 was a huge year for Chitty Bang.
I don't even know what 2011 is going to be like.
Tell me a little bit about some stuff that we might be able to expect.
Because I think some stuff is going to be unexpected.
I mean, I could say just bring your life in fork.
Expect the bars to be crazy per usual.
You know what I mean?
We're going to go hard.
And we're just going to strive to improve and keep getting better and better every time.
Very cool.
All right.
So, Chitty Bang.
Alex Chapman.
Zafoon.
Chitty.
Zafoon.
I think I'm going to change my name to Bassoon.
Trombone.
Trombone Swellie.
Swellington.
Swellington.
All right.
So, we'll see you guys later.
