I think most of you guys have seen the Profiti Analyze 2.0 iPhone application on the internet
like most of the blog and Hi-Bees and all that.
We've got the man here today.
Could you kind of quickly explain what's the application like?
Sure.
The software I started working on back in 2004 and just recently put up a new version
up.
You can get it online for free.
It's a software designed for graffiti writers and it captures tags and saves them into graffiti
markup language which is a new file standard we're working on that saves not just the image
of the tag with all the motion and the ordering that it was made and it saves into a digital
text file.
So it's called the GML?
Yeah, graffiti markup language.
It's all the laser tag and everything could be all linked up together.
Yeah, so currently there's going to be a new version of laser tag if anyone's seen that.
We actually used it here in Hong Kong a couple of years ago with MCN and so there's a new
version of that coming out that's going to be compatible with this graffiti markup language.
There's another project we did called the Eye Writer which allows people who have no
motion and are paralyzed to write graffiti with their eyes that also uses the GML.
The new iPhone version uses GML like all these new digital graffiti projects that me and
some friends and collaborators have been working on are all going to get ported to this new
standard so that we can kind of hook all this stuff up together.
Nice.
So talking about the Eye Writer you've seen last time, I saw on your blog last time you
went to Los Angeles with a graffiti writer called Temped.
Yeah, Temped 1.
And then I saw a lot of suppliers, did laser tag on the highway and all that.
So any follow up after the video because I kind of lost track of what's happening after.
Is he happy before the Temped itself?
So Temped is, for those that don't know, Temped 1 was a graffiti writer in Los Angeles that
him and his crew were kind of credited with being the first graffiti writers to really
bomb on the highways in LA which is like a major staple in graffiti.
And so Temped has a disease called ALS which makes it so he has no movement in his eyes.
And so last time we were out there the clips you saw was, we did sort of a one night when
we were testing where Temped was catching tags in his hospital room using this.
And you guys on the highway.
Yeah, we were on the highway and he, we also had a webcam that was sent back to his room
so he could catch tags with his eyes and look at the webcam and see it up on the building
real time so it was crazy.
So since then, since then we've released all the software for free, we're trying to
get other computer programmers and developers working on this and it's actually a friend
on the team, James is currently in India, he's going to be presenting the project and
trying to get more developers over there involved.
So now we're just trying to get the word out and it's an open source project so it's
all for free so we're trying to get more people hopefully that are smarter than us
involved in trying to make the system even better.
Yeah, I saw the Mac version, Windows version and Linux version as well, the Capture, Capture,
the Capture application and the player as well for graffiti analysis.
So you guys can go download.
The website is graffitianalyze.com, G-R-A-F-F-I-C-I-A-N-A-L-Y-S-I-S.com and there should be a download
session, download session so you can get whatever version you're using so you can go to test
it out so you can build your own graffitianalyze application, but yeah, you can build your
own thing in your house or just download it, go to the app store, it's only $2 so yeah
people can get it, but I've got a question about the GML, so the GML was that since the
beginning of the project you thought like a thing of that GML Coke or it's kind of like
in the middle oh shit we need to unite everything together or we just hit and miss or it's just
like all planned out.
It came late because when I first started the project I was in school, it was like my
thesis project in graduate school, graffiti analysis project and back then I was saving
all the files out and I was naming them as.graph and I just thought it was kind of funny that
I was naming them my own file format, but I never really put it together that if we standardize
this across all these other apps this could really be useful and Theo Watson is another
artist friend of mine, he's the main programmer on laser tag, I met up with him in Paris for
the show where we were showing graffiti analysis and he was saying we should really do something
with this file format, this.graph thing and it was him who really made a big push that
was like we should make this an XML standard and so then all this week him and I and some
other friends we had this collaborative site called FAT and this week is GML week so we've
all been working on graffiti markup language projects and you know we're really into this
sharing open source collaborative work and so this makes that process even easier now
because like anyone can develop an application, everyone's got the code and we also released
this site called blackbook so it's like the hex code for black is all zeros so it's 6 zeros
book dot com zero zero zero zero zero zero book dot com and that's a site that's all
it really is is a database of GML files so anyone can upload GML that was saved in any
of the applications anyone can download GML and there's also a place for software developers
anyone can develop software that reads and writes GML and that site's going to be the
hub for this and we're hoping that we can get a bunch of really good graffiti writers
on virtual blackbook for everyone and so we tested out last time with Jeff and Yan in
your studio yeah yeah yeah yeah we just basically if you download the application of graffiti
analyze and then just do your tag and then hit upload and then write down your name and
then after I don't know 30 second go up to zero zero zero zero zero blackbook dot com
like blackbook dot com and then you can get download your tag in 3d form or like you know
in visual video or pictures yeah you can embed it in your blog so yeah everyone can be like
collecting everyone's tag and stuff so it's really cool um so have you got any plan I
know you've been busy the whole like a month or even more busy this week but have you got
any plan for maybe like this month any big plan I know you're moving to Paris yeah biggest
plan is we miss but um yeah um so any big plan in Paris you're gonna hook up with the um
the programmer in Europe more or you gotta do like the same thing yeah the two main programmers
I've been working a lot with Theo Watson there's an Amsterdam and Chrissie Gruhleism and Dredd
so it'll be easier to work with them um no there's no like real specific plans for heading
out there I had some some shows coming out but um more just looking forward to like eating
some tasty cheese you know nice so um but we'll be back yeah definitely definitely
definitely but um yeah thanks thanks for thanks for Ethan coming down today hey man thank you
yeah man I know you're flying on Monday you guys can check out DJ prepare in the graffiti
analysis yeah and and MCN as well so um go check out graffitianalyze.com people noticed
your laptop in the flicker comments I noticed oh yeah who's in the background with the laptop
this is quite bush and giant letters oh yeah well yeah thanks for Ethan man nice nice nice
nice to have chat today with your busy schedule yep thank you man yeah this is the mechs we
play now it's even Christmas mechs um yes um except you can download it on the internet
yeah you should play it on the internet um you can go to his blog which is blogblog.ni
and number nine E.com that should be on the front page at the bottom after the LMF this
is my first attempt at a mix I was I had private lessons from DJ Pocoyo yeah Jinjo on the Jinju
crime but um yeah it's nice it's nice it's nice a lesson of music man so um yeah thanks
a lot for today so I'll see you again soon yeah man yeah bye later on
