Hey, what's going on guys, I'm Ricardo Managot and this is the Insider series.
I'm sitting with Arlen, the director and writer of the Texture of the Light.
I want to thank you for just taking the time to suit me.
Alright, so why don't you just tell us a little bit about the film.
Well, the Texture of the Light is about a single mother that has a kid with a disability.
He's blind and in order to restore the vision, she has to look it up for the father to see if he wants to become the stem self-donor.
And he doesn't know that he had a kid with this woman.
Beautiful story. Tell us a little bit about where you got the idea for this film.
Well, I was taking a class at Brooklyn College and I started researching about different kinds of sickness and how it would work out on my film.
And that's how I got it, like doing research, I don't know, thank you.
And then also I get inspired to this short video about this letter kid that he was deaf and then for the first time he hears.
And then I was like, I would like to do that, but because film is more visual, I would like to do it with the sight.
But I think it will be working well. It will work well also if it's deaf.
But you did work amazing and it really did.
Tell us a little bit about the boy you used and how you found him because he was spectacular.
Thank you. Well, I was in Puerto Rico and my mother, she found me a job at a school.
So I was teaching theater and then I saw this kid that he was, you know, he was like full of light.
And I was like, I should get this kid. I'm going to tell him to come with me and he was going with me home and all that.
Because then we are like custom but very, very far, not very close.
And then I was like, you're the one. And he wanted to stay with me. He was like my kid.
That's amazing. So it was cool.
So it was fun working with him because the cast had a wonderful chemistry in the location.
You did the location work as well. My father helped me with that.
Tell us a little bit about that. Well, basically my father, I told him what was the story about.
And he was like, oh, when I arrived in Puerto Rico, he was like, oh, I found you this beautiful location.
We're going to go see it. And when I see it, I was like, yeah, this is it.
So it was cool because the entire family got involved in the film.
When's family? It was like a family-friendly film. So it was really cool.
So why don't you just tell the people where we can find some of your work?
Yeah, through Facebook, Erlin and Martinez Cora. I also have a YouTube account, which is called Filmblog,
which I teach in Spanish and English, a short video of how you could actually do a short film.
