Hey, I'm Elizabeth Sandy, I was a producer on Starting from Scratch and I also played
the character of Allie.
I guess I started as a dancer, that was what I thought I was going to be and that kind
of triggered a love for musical theatre and I did a lot of plays and musical productions
when I was in my teenage years and then when I was about 13 an acting agent was in the
audience and I guess you could say I was kind of spotted and I started auditioning for film
and TV and that kind of took over and I found that acting was what I wanted to do and I'm
still here doing it but now I'm in Los Angeles.
I was always very dedicated to taking class, I actually am a graduate from the National
Theatre Drama School in Melbourne which was a three year intensive course.
We started with probably 40 classmates and by the graduating year we had 10, nine girls,
one guy.
I was working professionally from about the age of 16 in commercials and TV and film and
then when I finished drama school I did a lot of theatre, working for the love of it,
a lot of fringe theatre and then eventually decided to take the leap and come out to Los
Angeles and try my luck there and it's been an ongoing battle, I've always juggled support
jobs some years are better than others but I still come back for more and now I'm here
producing this film which was a huge task and I'm really proud of it.
I did a spot on Parks and Recreation which was terrifying for me just because it was
actually my first network TV show that I did out here.
I fumbled a few of my lines with the producers watching and Amy Poehler was there and Rob
Lowe was there and I don't think it was as bad as I reflect on now.
Eagleton, the land of rich snobby jerks.
Hello and welcome to the Wilmerpote County Records office here in beautiful Eagleton.
My name is Alexis Pratchett.
Take it down a notch Alexis.
That was a highlight just because it was a whole new world to me because even network
shows in Australia are much smaller scale.
Every actor does Neighbours in Australia, it's kind of part of your career for everyone.
I think I played about six different characters throughout the years and despite having disappointments
I just always pick myself back up and keep on going and I think it's just that innate
love of what I'm doing that keeps me going and it's so rewarding when you have people
watch your work and it's done and you made it or you've created a character that people
have really responded to and you were able to trigger that in them.
That's pretty neat to be able to touch someone in that way.
Most actors would agree that we are suckers for punishment and we keep going back for
more even though we get rejected and it can be really tough to make ends meet.
I think for me it's just part of who I am.
I can't imagine not being an actor.
I think that kind of self-expression and being able to play especially if you can make a
living out of being able to play and tap into people, tap into situations, environments,
emotions, I think there's nothing quite like the high of being able to tackle a really
good role.
It's that thing that every actor has where everything just clicks and it's almost like
you can't remember what happened.
The performance was an absolute blur and it's over before you know it's like automatic
processing.
Those moments don't come very often where you lose complete self-judgment and self-consciousness.
I'm really passionate about it and I'm really passionate about collaborating with like-minded
creative people and nutting things out and I think that was what was great about starting
from scratch.
She said it really was a collaboration and we all just chipped in to make what I think
is a great film.
At the end of the day I do this because I love it and I love the craft.
I just want to act, I want it to be what I do so ultimately great roles that I can sink
my teeth into while making a living, that would be awesome.
