I am a Paris-based journalist and the founder of a shaded view on fashion film.
The festival is a study in the drama, power, and personification that fashion evokes and
commands on screen.
My background spans fashion, journalism, costume design, talent scout, curator of exhibitions,
and filmmaking.
I found Bruno Peters to be elegant and refined and not at all pretentious.
Bruno Peters formerly was the creative director of Ugo for Ugo Boss.
When the Ugo contract ended, I think it was all for the best.
He had the courage and clearly the resources to take a two-year sabbatical and step off
of the fashion treadmill.
Most designers would have been afraid to make that kind of a move, fearing that they would
soon be forgotten.
Peters needed some time to rethink what he wanted out of his life.
His approach to the fashion industry right now is revolutionary.
Before, he was in the system producing collections every season.
After two years of reflection, Peters came back with a fresh and honest approach to fashion,
which I consider revolutionary.
You took a break of almost two years, right?
Most people would be scared to death to do that, figuring, you know, all these people
that always think, if I'm not everywhere at every moment, I'm going to be forgotten.
How did you decide to take that risk?
I didn't have a choice, really.
I felt I needed a break, I had kind of a burnout, and I just decided to quit because
I knew it was time to do it.
I needed time, and I just left for India one month after my last show.
Honest Buy dares to tell the truth in an industry that focuses mainly on commercial profit.
Peters is the only designer that dares to show how the product is made, who is making
it, where the materials come from, and beyond that, how the pricing is structured.
This pricing strategy takes us from the thread to the finishing of the final garment.
As a human being, Peters obviously cares about the planet.
His lifestyle is reflected in his approach to fashion.
He doesn't eat meat, and therefore, he will not use leather or fur in his garments.
His materials are ecological fabrics made in Belgium, using 100% organic silk, recycled
wool, and vegan versions of almost every piece of the collection.
He's also not afraid to skip fashion shows and launch his collection online, where he
can track every step of the manufacturing and production.
He's happy to take the risk to carve out a new way of fashion behavior.
What's luxury to you?
Luxury.
I think life in general is a luxury.
It's such...
I don't take it for granted.
What's love to you?
Love to me is the unknown that we know by heart, something that we know, just un-intuition,
something that we feel.
It's a mystery, but at the same time, it's very comprehensible for everyone.
I think it's the one mystery we all understand.
