Is this freedom? To ask more of yourself than you are able to give? To exhaust yourself?
To reach for something you cannot grasp? We chose this, because we wanted to know how
far we could go to find our limit. No one could have known it was going to hurt so much.
The Udruth is a classic ski tour, where you try to reach the highest possible route from
Chamonix to Zermatt.
We do this with the mountain bike, from Verbier to Brick, almost below the Gletschendlern.
We are going to put up a total of 10,000m of altitude and I am afraid that we will have to
wear the bikes for most of the time, which is to be honest, for a bike tour is actually quite a
question. Of course there are trips that are rougher, more difficult, more dangerous, but for
both of us it's going to be the biggest challenge we have ever attempted on a bike. We tried to
prepare ourselves. I would consider us to be in shape, but we are no professionals.
We are able to ride up the mountains and down again, at least most of the time.
I work in an advertising agency, where I type words into a computer.
As soon as I shut it down, I sit down on the saddle or in front of another computer to edit
films, just like this one. Johannes earns his money in a bank, handling data,
but his real passion is race numbers.
For both of us, mountain biking is important in life,
but there were huge changes ahead of us, which would mean new, different responsibilities.
But until that time comes, we want to prove ourselves for one last time in the mountains.
We started off with a drone trail, which is a specialty here in the Valleys.
The Valleys is incredibly dry and water-free. It is driven by hundreds of old
wound cream, mostly small trails that are great for session riding.

Can't seem to get away
What would you mean?
What would you mean?
What can you not expect?
Of course a pass is a way through.
But it's not only a natural barrier you cross.
It's also an obstacle within yourself.
That part of you that you often don't really like.
The part of you that says,
You can't do this, you don't want this.
What's this all about anyway?
To conquer a pass is a victory over everything pessimistic.
All yourself impose limitations.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are going down to Eurola and continue our daily goal.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
Mountains are more than masses of rock and earth.
Mountains define regions with gorges and valleys.
To reach a pass is always a high point, a turning point,
or at least a threshold.
It is an objective that you set for yourself.
That's what happiness is about.
The freedom to take up a challenge
and the triumph of succeeding in spite of all obstacles.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
We are now on the cold Riedmacken, 2,919 meters.
Our daily routine often feels like life on rails,
in which everything is predetermined.
If you ride down a mountain, on your bike, fighting with gravity,
you regain the feeling of control.
You pose yourself challenges, and you overcome them.
A pie, everything is different.
Even the occasionally difficult relationship
between bikers and hikers changes.
We have the first pass behind us,
and we actually have to get the second pass
a little higher than the first one,
which we still have to do in the afternoon.
We have to get down to Steuben.
Okay, see you later.
Thank you very much.
We had almost reached the end of our trip.
Manned in equipment, we're showing signs of fatigue.
But ahead of us was one final stage.
We have to get to Steuben.
Yes, it's the last pass of this tour.
From here on, it's just a backup.
We'll see you later.
We'll see you later.
Thank you very much.
It shouldn't be far from here.
You can already see the Rone Valley down there.
It's incredible how long this trail is.
We'll see you later.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
