So who's going to win Gokul, Colorado this year?
Is it going to be a Fort Collins team for the third year in a row?
They could easily take a three-peat.
I don't know what's going to happen, and I just love this part of it.
Fort Collins' personality is super important to me in the culture of the city.
What is in the water here in Fort Collins?
I think, you know, I think there's some magic in it.
I do think Fort Collins has a great mix of ideas, a great mix of culture here.
There is just that entrepreneurial spirit, you know, whether it's making beer or writing software,
everyone just seems to have an interesting idea.
It's the beauty of Gokul in general that we're able to kind of uncover this
and shine a light on these tech entrepreneurial communities throughout the state.
And yeah, I would say Gokul's done that in Fort Collins for sure, because they've stood up and won it both years.
Gokul, Colorado is a civic app challenge.
We take business challenges that business decision makers face.
We go to the entrepreneurial and tech community, and we ask them to solve those challenges using public data.
Public data is just like any other public utility.
It's a resource that is not widely used, but it's only as good as its usage.
And so what we want to do is tap the entrepreneurial minds and the innovation of Colorado
and ask people to take this raw, free, open data and make something really cool with it.
Gokul, Colorado started about three years ago.
And ever since I've been participating, this is my third year now.
And in the past two years, Fort Collins had the winning teams in both years.
It speaks to the tech and the entrepreneur culture and what's going on up there.
They're doing something right to have that kind of competition.
The Fort Collins just has great resources for the tech startup community.
You've got the industry, you've got Galvanize, and then you've got CSU.
They're doing amazing things to bring technical talent here and building it.
I feel that creating these hubs of activity that we've done well here in Fort Collins
at places such as the industry here at Galvanize, it has enabled a lot of these talented people
to come together and make great things.
I think people in Fort Collins are more hungry to win, I think,
and people are looking for new opportunities to get ahead and make the name for themselves.
So at stake for these 10 finalist teams, the top three winners get $25,000 each
to move on with their idea, see where it can go.
My name is Emily Hewney, and I have a team that built an application called Regulation Explorer.
And what we are doing is putting Colorado Oil and Gas Regulations on the map.
The solution that we are doing is putting Colorado Oil and Gas Regulations on the map.
The solution that we are providing is we're bringing together many different data sets,
and then we're making it easily accessible and providing the end user with tools
to help them understand regulations on the oil and gas industry.
Our team name is SWO, which stands for Shop Women Owned.
Our goal is to help women-owned businesses be more successful.
We want to help them get to the point where they can employ more employees,
and we want to help them feel more confident and be successful
so that they are taking over the world.
Well, if it's not hard to say, I can't wait to see who's going to win this thing,
because I can't wait to see who's going to win this thing.
I think it's going to be really difficult for judges to pick just three winners this year,
but I still hope for Collins, one of them.
Really, I can't wait to see what happens this year.
I hope we bring it home again.
I know we can. I know we have the potential.
So here's to hoping we get the three P.
Hello, GoCode Colorado. Welcome. Welcome.
Halfway through GoCode Colorado 2016, the final competition,
we've got five teams that have already presented.
We're waiting to hear the next five.
This is the end of months of work for these teams,
and I'm just really excited.
We've had great presentations so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.
I have to tell you, I was incredibly impressed by the presentations this time.
So let's give all of the teams a great hand.
It would not be a GoCode competition without a Fort Collins team placing.
And so the last of our three winners is Regulation Explorer.
So this is the third year in a row that Fort Collins has won.
It's a three P, and we have an incredible coding community here
and a great culture around entrepreneurship.
It really has been just an incredible experience,
and we were so honored and proud to have this happen,
and we just want to say thank you to GoCode Colorado
because we're a big believer in open data.
