I was working at a summer camp and now I'm returning to Mexico.
Oh terrific.
Well you know today is the day of the solar eclipse.
I know.
Are you excited?
I am incredibly excited.
I've never seen one.
So you're planning to do an observation.
You're going to get together with people.
How are you going to do that?
No, well because I have to return.
I'm going to get to Albany and when I get there I will go back to Mexico.
But I don't want to miss it.
I just have to go but still I don't want to miss it.
And what's the deal?
Why are you excited?
Why do you want to see this thing?
Because it's a solar eclipse.
I mean it hasn't been one in a while, in a long, long while.
I've never seen one and it's a very special occasion.
Even though it's not a total eclipse around here, I've never seen not even a partial
one.
So I want to, I'm excited.
My family lives at Wallingford.
Okay.
Okay are you excited about the big solar eclipse today?
I am excited but you know don't have the proper eye gear yet so I've got to figure
that out still.
Okay but you're planning to get outside and observe it today?
Yeah.
The most appropriate way to celebrate a solar eclipse and why?
The most appropriate way to celebrate a solar eclipse is to go outside, enjoy the lovely
town that you're living in and not go blind from looking at it directly.
Okay Dan, listen tell me why you're excited about the eclipse today.
Well it's been a while since I saw one so but I'm waiting for seven years from now.
Because then we get the total eclipse here in Vermont.
How much is, what percentage are we getting here today?
62.
62.
Right here?
Yeah.
And this is exciting to you because of what?
That's a celestial event.
Virtually everyone we've had this year has been blocked by the clouds so.
So today's a good day for you.
Yeah, it's a perfect day.
Alright so Jenna, listen tell me why are you so excited about the eclipse today?
What's it to you?
Well I actually work at Same Sun of Vermont across the street and as a solar company we're
really interested in watching what happens to the grid today.
You think it's going to have an effect?
Have you noticed anything?
It most definitely will as solar relies on the sun.
It will drop down to zero at some point throughout the day for all solar customers.
Officer Ranje tell me something, what effect do solar eclipse have on your role?
Law enforcement?
Well I don't think it has much effect on our role.
There's a lot of people watching it.
Are you interested, are you excited about it?
I am, I am.
What is it about if it's so fascinating?
Oh it happens every what, 80 years or so?
What is it about the eclipse that's fascinating to you?
To me it's to be able to share the experience with other people.
Okay and what is the experience?
Seeing something that you normally don't see, something that is for some people once in
a lifetime.
Could you, could you tell me what causes this phenomenon?
I see it, do you answer me again?
What's when the moon moves, is it in front or behind the sun?
In front of the sun.
In front of the sun, there we go.
Tell me about the eclipse, now what does it mean to you, why is it significant?
It's significant because I've never seen it before.
And what did you see, describe it?
I saw the shadow of the, of the moon coming across the sun, is that right?
Is that the right answer?
I saw the moon coming in front of the sun.
Right, I saw the moon coming in front of the sun.
Okay, was it awesome?
It was pretty awesome.
All that and more?
Yes of course, with the coolest glasses ever.
Alright Ross, tell me about these glasses that you're using.
These are super good viewing glasses for the eclipse.
What do you see Ross?
I see the moon going in front of the sun and it's about halfway, halfway covered.
Is it awesome?
The sun's crescent shaped.
Is the world ending?
Oh well, I don't know, no opinion.
What's this you got, what's this you're holding here to look at the eclipse?
Show this to me.
It's a welder's mask, so we could use it to see the sun.
And why are you using this welder's mask?
So it doesn't blind us.
You don't want to be blinded by the eclipse?
No.
So how come you're not watching it now?
Because you're recording?
