It feels alright. You know I didn't have that great of heat but got the win and kind of
blew my best wave probably. I had a nice section and then just mistimed it but you know there's
a few fun waves out there and you know it's definitely definitely a fun day to have the
contest. Yeah I know Matt's a great little surfer and you know he's got a big future
at him. I'm sure that you know at 16 years old I can only imagine myself having been
in front of this crowd surfing against a you know surf against a world champ at the time
or whatever. I did that when I was 17 and it freaked me out in my hometown so to be in front
of this many people you know it's probably a little overwhelming for me. I had a big grin
on his face the whole time and he seems so. This event, events like this are they're so
great because you got such you know so much crowd interaction walking on the beach and everyone's
right there close. Kind of a grandstand arena for us you know. Probably the last wave with
the people. He said he'd anyway frozen up off of the top, sticking close to the top
of there that the traditional placement that he's been using as a world champ. He's never
done that before. After riding our Kelly Slater, ladies and gentlemen, we've been at Savage
renowned cutback around. The Kelly decides to kick out. Well a 4.0 for Kelly Slater which
is enough to put him in the lead and this was the wave right behind Mr. Coyote and just
trying to force the issue there and as we said before there's going to be a lot of average
waves caught.
Yeah it was good I was a bit nervous before I went out but when I got out there in the
water I felt pretty comfortable. It was good to have a hit with Slater and Coyote and I
had a ball. It was probably the best half an hour in my life. I was really enjoying it
and it's good to get some good waves and surf alright. It was fun.
He's not white on the back foot, waiting for this wave to stand up again there. It's doing
it. Just tags that section. He's thinking, what's he thinking here Pots? He's gone for
it. He was looking for an aerial maneuver there and there it is. There it is.
Oh yeah I'd like to say hi to Lindell and a few other people all that I've done no
more. Yeah for sure I felt good. Even though I wanted to con this last week I was still
pretty nervous. That was a warm up and this is the big one so I'm obviously going to have
a few nerves but I was really excited too so I think I had that perfect balance of excited
and not too nervous and yeah it felt good. I felt good on my board and the waves were
fine. I love that little east and north east or whatever it is. It just makes the best
little lifts and it's just perfect for throwing your board out at the top so that's my favorite
way to surf so I like those conditions. That moment of honor on the open face. He does
so nice carving turn there. Straight up into it again, snapping that turn again, showing
a little bit of repertoire there and the tail goes up and over. Beautiful turn there. Pottage.
And that little wave there. Pretty attached to the white. The outside. Tossed by the good
side of the big Pottage. Picks it beauty to. Comes around sipping very tight for the pocket.
Just throwing it. The tail coming around landing. Really clean. A beautiful right here for Pottage.
He's already put in the big moves that are going to guarantee him a reasonable score.
Seeping his strength to get on the inside. Public top turn there. Pottage still looking
to stay near the pocket and the scoring potential is right. Finishing a beautiful wave.
Pressure on the back foot there. Just carving back into the power source of the wave. Right.
Again tucking in really tight. Clean little bow. This time having the forces out at the bottom.
Out for that trademark top turn. Looks like there's probably another one coming out. Bam.
Around the twist midfang. Just winding it out on his second wave of his head.
More than anyone I guess is ready for it. Jody Smith up and riding though.
Big guy just casually cruises into that barrel and cruises out of it.
Whips into the big roundhouse. Saw Jody free surfing out here yesterday. He looked really good.
