My name's Brian, and I was born in Irvine.
My name's John, and I was born in Irvine.
There's a storm across the valley,
clouds are rolling in.
Irvine, California,
they had a title, Inside Irvine.
Celebrate Irvine's open space.
I think that's why I'm here.
I want to get inside Irvine. I want to celebrate it.
I'm going to be your filmer, partial commentator,
your talents over there, and
I'll be your tour guide and your friend.
A protected habitat for many native plants and animals.
What are these poppies? I think those are marigolds. Irvine's native flowers.
Residents
can retreat to the open space, bikes on soaked trails,
bike on scenic off-street bikeways, or picnic under sycamore trees to find peace
and solace.
It's tough to film us both and try to keep us both in frame.
You've got the looks. I'll stay closest to the camera.
You know what I'm saying?
Hey there.
My name's John Huckstaff. I'm Brian Robbins.
We were born in Irvine, California. You know, growing up here is like winning the lottery.
You get it all. You get the beautiful sunsets,
you get the girls. A little brief history if I may.
I used to mountain bike up and down these trails when I was a boy.
And here I am
as a big boy, walking them.
You get exceptional service, innovative
programs, cultural diversity.
Anyways, Irvine, Incorporated in 1971.
Population about 76,000 at the time.
That time mostly miles of citrus trees
all up Jeffrey and Irvine Boulevard. Since then it's grown
into a large, urban, well-planned community
210,000. You get sustainable spaces.
You get a heck of a city council. You get a kids club program that is barren
on the best in the county. We know we're products.
Nature's all around you. What are
some statistics? Of what, John? The safest community.
The safest biggest city in the United States. Four years running.
Pretty much anywhere at night. That's true. And we'd like to
thank everybody. Cleaning the police
for keeping it that way. Our little paradise.
Look at that.
It's like a grand canyon. What they call it the biggest little town
in the country. Yeah, the city sure has grown in a
hurry. I hope it hasn't forgotten about us
that have been here for a long time. Made it our home.
It's not so little though anymore. Now, 180,000
people. This place is all on the map. When we first came here, I was born here.
From different families. We're friends. Best friends.
What's that old phrase you get what you pay for?
Went in Rome.
Really? I think that's it. Went in Rome.
Get what you pay for. I think when our parents were settling
here, back in the late 1970s, early 1980s, they
were looking for a place where their kids could be, exist, be
educated, be loved. Safe environment.
Be athletic. Be careful there. I think Irvine is one
of the most athletic cities in Southern California.
Who do we have? We've got Tim Wallach, University High School.
We have... Who's that? Colorado Rocky
Stir Basement. Garrett Atkins. Absolutely. We have...
Don't forget Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods one time came to Irvine.
Can you hear that? A lot of sound.
Fits my mindset right now. Not a care in the world.
In this wildlife sanctuary, deer, bobcats, coyotes,
and hundreds of birds and small animals survive and thrive.
We're losing the daylight. Little freight of coyotes out here.
One of the reasons I
and I think both of us like to come out here is just to get away from it all.
It takes a while to get out here, but it is just a gorgeous vista.
I don't think anything for miles can be seen or heard.
And it's just, you know, you get away from that hustle and bustle.
And it's just another world. And it's Monday again. Back to work.

It's always the same, it's just a shame that's all I'll
I could say day and you'd say night
Tell me it's back when I know that it's why
It's the same, it's just a shame and that's all
I could live, but I won't go
through my heart, my town or so
I told them I couldn't. I'm in school.
Good people, real estate appreciation
swimming pools, tennis courts
and active Boy Scout community
I don't know what I'm reaching for. Fancy cars
well paved roads
I wouldn't have it any other way
Killing John
Oh, rejuvenated I think. Yeah, there you go
Feels real good, doesn't it?
What do you think about most tomorrow, thinking back on this day?
Oh
That I grew up in the most beautiful place on earth?
Have you traveled much? No
Why would I want to go anywhere else? There you go, great attitude
There you go, don't go
Since there's no one else around
If we get all we used to know
Then our skin gets thicker
Living out in the snow
John, what are you thinking?
Well, I think when I first came up here I wasn't expecting a whole lot
It's Irvine. When I tell anybody I'm going to Irvine
Irvine's known for its school districts, not its nature and open space
Well, I disagree
I'll look around
I hate to get home but I hate to leave this place
Just a peek
You know, when we try to pick out anything
by itself, we find that it's hitched to everything else in the universe
Pretty lucky
I guess what I like to say is
you get out of life what you put into it
And it's hard to put it into words
Well, I even try
That we think of a pair of
Whatever, I don't know
You change your mind
Sleeping in my head
As the day goes down
Hear your say, calling in
Your love shines in me
Pure as my color
Oh it's by my mind
