We're here today with Direct Hit from Milwaukee, you're on a tour through Europe, it's alright
the whole of October and today you're playing in Freiburg at the KTS with Goodbye Fairground.
Good to have you here guys, how has the tour been going so far?
We're not done, we're not in jail man, it's been going real good, it's the way we see
it.
It's the only standards we have.
That sounds like we're successful.
Jailing?
Yeah, it's really successful, it's going great.
Alright, you played in several different countries in Europe so far and you've already
been to Germany as well.
You played in Ramones Museum, is that right?
Yep.
How's that been for you guys?
It's a pretty cool venue.
That was great.
That was the coolest.
I didn't have to play and then I drank for free all night.
There you go, no success.
Who played in Ramones Museum?
Devin and I did.
We played in the acoustic set.
Alright, so it's...
Real shallow crochet.
Who does what?
In the band?
I sing and play guitar.
I also do that.
I play drums.
I play bass.
Alright, so there we go.
So check that out, you played in almost eight different countries in Europe so far and that's
always alright.
What was the best show?
Nuremberg.
Nuremberg.
Nuremberg.
Germany always has the craziest shows.
All of our weird stories whenever we're over in Europe come from Germany.
Always.
Without a doubt.
Nuremberg involved a naked guy during the show.
I saw that at the end of that.
That was the next question I was going to ask.
Saw that dick.
Yeah, you sure did.
I saw it.
I didn't really see the dick though.
I can show you.
Yeah, why haven't you seen it?
You see a man on it, man.
That was the guy with the mask, was it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Is that the weirdest thing that happened on tour so far or is there anything that gets
weird?
Weirdest and most awesome.
I don't know.
There's weird shit that happens on tour and then you don't remember it for like a month
and a half afterward.
And then you see a picture of something and then you're thoroughly disgusted with yourself.
Okay, so I'm going to ask you again then maybe in a month and a half.
Just hold me up guys.
Can you remember what happened on tour?
Yeah, I remember some weird moments.
I died.
Yeah, on tour, a newer album, Bring the Scott, a concept album.
How's that for you guys to do?
Is that anything new about a concept album?
I don't know if it was new.
It made writing an album a lot easier because you knew what songs had to sound like at certain
points and where the lyrics had to go and things.
All of our decisions are motivated by laziness almost all the time and that was definitely
one of them.
Even though it sounds like this big grandiose ambitious thing, it was really just because
it helped the album write itself rather than me having to figure out like a new topic to
write for every single fucking song and shit like that.
So it made it a lot easier having one sort of overarching deal where I knew what I had
to write about next and lyrically at least, musically was a little bit tougher.
The entire album was just a complete ripoff of The Wall by Pink Floyd.
I think it actually turned out better than The Wall.
To be honest, I listened to it a couple of times and I'm pretty sure it did.
The Wall, Tommy.
The White Album.
All lower than what we just did.
Well, it's a story all about on the album.
So it's, I don't know, it kind of meanders.
It's about, it's set against the end of the world about there's sort of this, we reference
the bombs dropping all the time which is the idea of bombs coming and blowing up the world
and it's sort of set around this one sort of protagonist who doesn't really know what
she's doing. She murders her husband and one of the tracks in the songs and it's all about
how she thinks that's going to make the end of the world okay and her life is going to
be fulfilled and satisfied and all this other kind of, and it turns out that it doesn't really
work out that way and she doesn't feel all that great about it.
So there's a serial killer involved, there's a cult involved, a bunch of afterlife bullshit.
You can read the lyrics. It helps you figure it out pretty easy.
In other words, we don't know.
Sounds pretty depressing.
There's videos for all of it though.
So if you want to see the story, the stories are coming out for people to watch.
Cool.
Is there gonna, are you gonna release something else except for the videos like with the album?
We have a vinyl release that's supposedly coming out this winter and it's going to be
packaged with a full comic book.
We almost look at it like a play bill for an opera or something like that.
So you'll be able to, the whole lyric book is going to be illustrated so you can see all
the illustrations for everything that goes along with all the lyrics and then it also
comes with a DVD with all the videos that we're making assembled into one sort of album
length music video that lasts for like 35 minutes and so it's going to be really cool
when it's out, if it ever comes out.
It's all, we always take that kind of stuff with a grain of salt.
We have all these really big plans and then shit always gets in the way of them.
So I'm hoping fingers crossed that it turns out as well as I think it's going to.
It's gonna come out on A-track.
It's just gonna come out on A-track.
You have to do the drawings yourself for the comic story.
No, actually a good friend of mine named Eric is working on him for us.
So he does, he did the artwork for the actual album and he did all the artwork for our merch
downstairs and he's a really, really talented guy and he really hasn't done a lot of work
for bands yet and so it's really lucky that we snagged him before he became a multi-million
dollar kind of operation or some shit like that.
So yeah, he's done a really cool job.
I think people are gonna be really into it when it comes out.
Cool.
I hope you'll be back in Germany.
Believe in me, we will be as soon as humanly possible.
Okay, so come back to your concept album.
If the work was going to end in a minute or ten, what would be the last thing you guys do?
That's a lyric, guys.
We've heard the goddamn song.
Well, it would be the last thing you guys would do.
I'd get so hammered that I wouldn't know that the world was going to end, I think.
Probably bait, lots of bait and master bait and just try and clean up the tubes.
Yeah, of course.
I always wanted to try dragon fruit.
I think that would be the most perfect time to do that.
It's not bad.
That's not bad.
That's not bad.
Definitely getting drunk, master bait and dragon fruit.
I'm kind of leaning with the dragon fruit.
We're gonna be pretty far apart.
I can have a dragon fruit.
Do whatever you want.
You can have club bait.
I don't want club bait.
I take bait.
I just want a club bait.
Are we sponsored by club bait?
Yeah, put that there for a reason.
Yeah, I turn around and lay back to you.
All right.
We're gonna listen to one of your songs, an acoustic version, you're gonna do one of your songs.
Yeah, thanks for checking out Direct Hits.
Proudlyugly.com for more interviews and more information.
I don't know your website.
Sorry, you can say that to the camera now.
Run Facebook and Twitter and all kinds of shit, man.
I don't run that stuff half the time.
Yeah, YouTube.com.
What song are you gonna play?
I'm gonna play Wait Robs.
