Oh, look at the pretty leaves.
Look out over there, right?
Red.
Look at the red.
You know, I wasn't born there, but I have no memory of living anywhere else.
They were in El Paso when Mother was pregnant with me, and then there was just army doctors there,
and so they came home, and I was born in Newton County.
I was born in Old Salem, but then they moved back to El Paso.
They went back to El Paso and lived there until I was probably about two, just like Jennifer was.
This is where Daddy worked.
Worked for the railroad.
They lived right in town, and they had a cow in town.
I was born in El Paso.
I was born in El Paso.
At Thanksgiving, we stayed home.
If anybody wanted to come to our house, that was okay, but we did things at our house.
We would go to, I can remember going to Paul and Ma's, that's my great grandparents,
and like all the kids and grandkids and everything would come in,
and there would just be probably like a huge family reunion, and it would be so cold,
and there would just be kids everywhere.
Oh yeah, that was in walking distance of our house, and we would shoot firecrackers,
and all the men would get drunk, and they'd just be one big party.
They'd just be one big old party.
They didn't get drunk, they came drunk, I think.
Yeah, because we didn't ever see it, we just knew it.
Well, we weren't, and Daddy didn't do it either,
and that's why we didn't do it very often, and we didn't do it for long periods at a time.
But Uncle Dick and Aunt Penny would be there, and Artie and Virgil would be there,
so if they were there, we would always go because Daddy liked both of them.
He didn't care for most of the others, we didn't really have a close relationship with them,
and they had bad kids, and we never did anything when he would never trust us with them.
My dad was very protective, and Aunt Penny and Uncle Dick didn't have any kids,
and Artie and Virgil only had kids who was older than he was, but what we liked her, she was fun.
I can remember when I was little, she came and the three kids and her went down in the woods
and chopped down a tree and drug it to the house and mixed up tied washing powders and dipped it
and made it like snow, made the biggest mess, but had more fun.
