Hi, I'm Deb Dettrick, Certified High Performance Coach, New Money Story Mentor, Team Beachbody
Coach, and your expert guide, Leading a Happy Life, and this is my co-host, Neanna.
Hello, everybody.
Welcome to another week.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see tip number 30 on how you can stay hopeful and
positive.
I can't believe that many come by in negative situations.
Everything that we all deal with, and the reason I brought this up, because yesterday
I had a lady in my office, and she was 80, and she's still out driving her business
and has no intention of retiring, and she says she has to combat that feeling of getting
older because she's surrounded with a lot of people that maybe are older and are struggling
with things.
And she's not.
She's very fortunate.
She has great health and great hearing.
Yeah.
Do you feel that you struggle with that a little bit, Neanna, as you get older?
Well, no, I'm really fortunate, I think, and luckily, my poor husband's going deaf.
I can hear a pin drop, so that makes up for the two of us, so that is fine.
And to be able to hear when, you know, so many people can't hear, even when they're
younger now, I think that's an absolute plus to be able to hear.
Well, I think you're so right, and you can move, you can get out, you can still drive,
you can still come to work, and how old are you?
38.
Now?
83.
83.
And you're such a positive role model.
And?
Try to be.
Our tip for you today are to give you some strategies to use if you're in a situation
that you can't change, and the first one is to define your purpose.
What is your purpose in life?
My purpose in life is to be there for my loved ones and pay any attention to them and
giving them my best self, and that's at work, too, and to developing my unique sets of abilities
and then to be able to go out in the world.
My purpose is to influence others for positivity, so they can have happier lives.
Now my unique purpose is different from Nana's.
What's yours?
My purpose is, I've told my grandchildren, I'm not popping off till I get great grandchildren,
so I might actually have to be 100.
I don't know.
Well, see, that's a great purpose.
That gives you some reason to get up in the morning and get going, and tip number two
is clarifying your values and your beliefs and your desires.
Your desire is to hold your grandbeats.
Oh, great grandbabies.
Oh, I keep doing that.
Your great grandbabies, and to see the pleasure on our children's faces, they have that.
My desire is to be a positive role model in the world to help people like you have happier
lives, and that's my purpose.
I would like to have a grandbaby too, but we'll have to wait for that.
The third thing is to combat a negative influence, a negative situation, is to recognize that
you're in it, and it's okay because life's always going to have those moments.
It's just human nature that is.
It's life, right?
It's life.
Life goes up and down.
We've been around enough to know.
Oh, yes.
It's like getting on a fucking Bronco, right up and you're down, and you're up and you're
down, and life is never like this, and if it was, we would be so bored.
I was just going to say that, you'd be bored to tears.
You would, and when you're bored, and that kind of leads to depression anyhow, so filling
your mind with positivity, and for me, when I fill up my mind with positivity, I do this
on a daily basis, I listen to podcasts that are uplifting to combat that negative world
and feelings because I deal with that just as much as everybody else.
I can feel that sense of negativity kind of seeping in, and so to actively combat that,
I listen to positive podcasts.
I listen to Joel Steen, and I listen to Brandy Bouchard, and I listen to Ajahn Brahmamababaso.
I don't want to say that, but it's the Buddhist myth.
What do you do?
Well, my husband loves the news, so I leave him and go into living room, and I have my
own TV, and to tell you the truth, I like to watch Home in Godness, the property brothers.
I love Drew and Scott.
They're raw, perhaps.
Yes, they are.
That uplifts me a lot.
And they're so happy.
Oh, yes, they are.
I mean, getting around happy people makes you feel happy, even if you have to do it on
the TV right now.
I just love that show.
I do too, and that brings us to tip number four, hanging around with positive people.
Even if you can't get out of the house, you can make sure you watch a TV show that's happy,
or get on your computer, and go to YouTube, or go to Google, and search happy things,
happy events, happy people, and that goes with filling your mind with positivity and
turning off the negativity, not allowing the negativity into your life.
That goes such a long way to help you to stay hopeful, to go back over our tip, to stay
hopeful and positive, to redefine and define what your purpose in life is, to clarify what
it is you really desire, what's meaningful to you, and live intentionally into that every
single day with every choice that you make.
Fill your mind with positivity, happy things, and hang around with positive people.
You become the company you keep.
You become what you allow to go into your mind, so be selective, be intentionally living
into being hopeful and being positive.
Being positive, yes.
We hope our tips help you.
It's our mission as your guides to leading a happy life, to give you tools and tips and
strategies, and how you can apply those in your life.
How you can lead a happier life, and until our next tip, go out in the world, please,
and be a positive role model and influencer for change, and let's make this a better
world.
Amen.
Amen, brother.
Amen, brother.
God bless.
God bless everybody.
