I'm Carly of Cherish Grand Blank and I'm here today with Beth of R&D, Use Books.
How long have you been here, Beth?
We've been in business in here in Grand Blank 13 and a half years.
So what's that story?
Well, actually I was a business professional and then had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom for a while with my son and my husband.
He's actually the one who remembered when we were talking way back when we first started dating doing that,
oh, what are your dreams and wishes and all that kind of stuff I mentioned that I wanted to own a bookstore someday.
And he remembered that and suggested that maybe to get me and my books out of the house,
I take them and find a spot to lease and put the books on the wall and he had this vision of me sitting, I think,
in a little store with books on the wall, reading, watching the kid and talking to people all day.
What makes your store unique?
What makes it different?
My customers who come in, each used bookstore in areas is uniquely put together by their customer base
because the customer base is the demographic that provides the inventory.
So Grand Blank's bookstore, R&D Use Books, has quite literally been built from the ground up by the customers that come in.
And I consider it their store.
I run the place, I put the books they bring in on the walls, but this is Grand Blank's store.
So you have a reading challenge going on right now?
We do have a reading challenge going on this summer.
Between June 1st and August 31st, the challenges to read 5,000 pages, that's the general challenge.
I'm reading 10,000 because I read for a living, so 5,000 is kind of cheating for me.
I invite other people who don't necessarily read all the time, but would like to get more in the habit of reading.
Read 10 pages a day, read whatever you're comfortable reading, but the important thing is to be reading.
So what's your page count right now?
I'm just over 5,000.
We slowed down for my son's baseball season.
And tonight's the last game, so we'll be back into full reading mode for the rest of the summer.
Great. I think I have a sale going on right now too.
We do customer appreciation by to get one free.
I wanted to give people another opportunity to get in and get some savings and restock.
I know those books from December have to be running out right about now, and I want everybody to get reading.
Especially for the challenge.
And Springer obviously agrees.
I want to thank all of my guests who come in for keeping me going.
And remind everybody that needs books ordered for back to school reading.
Now's the time to get in and get those ordered because everybody else is going to start ordering pretty soon
and the prices are going to go up and they're going to be harder to find.
It's great getting to know you more.
Thank you. Thanks for coming in.
