Dizzy Rascal is quite simply one of the UK's biggest rappers and founding fathers of Grime.
Dizzy burst onto the scene back in the summer of 2003 with debut album Boy in the Corner,
morning the huge singles Dizzy Rascal and Fix Up, Look Sharp. With UK top 10 albums
Maths in English, Tongue in Cheek, The Fifth, Superstar Collabs with Florence in the Machine,
Robbie Williams, Will I Am and Calvin Harris. Massive UK number ones including Dance of
Me, Holiday and of course the track that gets the party going, Bonkers.
Now he's back with new single Hype.
So I'm sitting down with Dizzy and asking your questions. So Fix Up, Look Sharp, all
you baseline junkies, this is MTV Asked, Dizzy Rascal.
So that's me bouncing the nut. Start boxing a little bit. Yes. Champaena ride. The goin'.
I feel like Leo with Oscar. The price just changed no sound with a costume. I would
be nice to have an island. Yeah, that'd be alright wouldn't it.
The laser comes from Sam in East London. East side. Yes. Sam wants to know you've done a
lot of features and worked with many artists, but who's the serious talent coming through
for the future. The way everything is now because of social media you know it's
coming big but you don't know who's gonna be around because just the way
everything's just happening so quick and so mad. Next week something massive will
come. So is anyone that you're really rating right now? Obviously you've got a
massive respect for Stormzy because he's a performer as well. Yeah so a lot of
photos of you guys go together on Instagram. Yeah he was in the barbers once
he was just naturally in there. You just like bogged into him. We've got the same
barbers we go to the same shop in it so he was in there and I was like this is a
moment. Yeah. This is just yeah just don't have him like this a lot. All right we're
going back to East London now to Cole who says what was it like getting your
first number one? Do you remember that moment? I remember it being crazy because
when I got that that record that I just got out of a record deal with the label
that I was signed to at the time. I actually I'm made to dance with me and
wanted to give it to them but I think they thought that that that weren't the
direction they wanted me to go in. Okay. So I ended up putting it out myself
because my deal was finished. So it was crazy for me to go number one. You put it out with yourself. Yeah I
felt I think a lot of people. Yeah I didn't know that. Wow. And then that's when all the
singles off that album went number one and then that album went platinum and
I put it out myself. It's crazy. That just like intensifies the whole thing. Yeah I
didn't know. I knew it was a good tune I knew because anytime I hit got a track
and I keep playing it over and over again I'm excited about it. I didn't know it was
gonna be that. We just shot some of that 10 grand video like at that time that was
really cheap. Now that's a decent video. It was just kind of budget. It was just a
bit of fun and it just took off. So that was crazy. Yeah it's my first number one.
It was Calvin Harris's first number one as well.
Well that is the end of your music round. How'd you find it? It was good. It wasn't so bad is it? It wasn't so bad.
Well here we go. Stay right there. You set me up now innit? Cos we've got some good unscaring.
So join us in just a few moments when we'll be putting more of your questions to the man himself
and this will be happening. I like a cup of tea with some chocolate hobnobs.
It'd be nice to have an island. Yeah that'd be alright wasn't it? Yeah.
Dizzy! I said like wilder videos running so I just ran in there quickly.
I didn't know what to do innit?
Hailey in San Diego USA. Okay. Hailey wants to know I've been seeing some amazing selfies of you
with other celebs. Who's your number one selfie? I took one. Have you got one that you're like mad proud of?
Yeah Quincy Jones. I thought I was Quincy Jones years ago. Yeah that was amazing.
You told me off. I got told off by him. That was a mad conversation. Why did you get told off?
He was trying to school me on some stuff and I was trying to say to him no no but it's alright.
And he's like he let me know that he was Quincy Jones. Right right right.
I told him except that he was Quincy Jones. But he still took the selfie with me after he
schooled me. Yeah. He sat there it was all good. Pretty felt bad didn't he? I don't think he did.
I don't think he felt like Quincy Jones. That's what he is. He's the boss. Like a boss man. Fair enough.
Yeah man. It's a big hello to Raul in Barcelona Spain who asked what is your signature dance move?
Can you show us? I tried to do a robot in the hype video. But I don't know I've got to put on this one.
That was terrible. That was terrible wasn't it? I'm not in the right position to do it but I'm
literally I was behind the decks and there was having like a dance competition in the video
and everyone was jumping in the circle and there they go. There they go.
Like wow the video was running so I just ran in there quickly.
That's what that's the first thing that comes about. I should have just done the
runner man and kept it simple wasn't it? Yeah stick with what you know. Do you have like when
do you when you go to the club? Do you like the club? Do you have like a move or I don't know what
you're doing. That's the new minute. Gun finger. Yeah gun finger and like a little box. Penso you won't get behind
the little circle. Oh yeah it depends on the song. Yeah you know. I've got the whole arm up.
Right right right that always works. The Esmeralda song for it.
