Winter. Devon. Animals are scarce. The cold has made many creatures hibernate or migrate
to warmer climates. Only the toughest creatures can survive on the slim pickings that the
winter woodland offers. As the ice melts, the country comes alive. Slowly the animals
return from abroad and emerge from hibernation. A flock of geese appear from across the channel.
A lone oyster catcher eyes up his first feast to the spring. They are swiftly joined by a
partner so it won't be feasting alone for long. As more and more creatures return, the
land explodes with life and the countryside is transformed into a vibrant landscape.
A lone deer in its sleepy state searches for the rest of the group. Another suckles its young.
The plants come alive too feasting on the warm sunshine. This in turn not only provides
more food for the grazing animals of the moorland but also for the water dwelling creatures.
A cormorant deals with a previous dinner. All too soon the summer comes to an end and
autumn sets in. The number of creatures in the woodlands decrease. Winter is coming and
before you know it the cycle starts again.
