Hello, I'm Logan Sims and welcome to We Are Talking Sports.
It has been a very successful week for the Wolf Pack in many different sports, but to
begin with, the NC State men's basketball team improved to 17-10 on the season, 7-7
in conference play as they defeated Virginia Tech 71-64 on Saturday.
TJ Warren erupted with 31 points in the contest, giving him his sixth game of the season reaching
the 30 point mark.
Tyler Lewis also had a huge game for the Pack, cashing in a career high 11 assist on no turnovers
while adding 8 points himself.
Kyle Washington scored 13 points for the Pack.
On the women's basketball, a Wolf Pack squad that has been struggling as of late, had a
crucial win over the Virginia Cavaliers at Reynolds Coliseum Sunday, ending a two game
skid.
The team improved to 23-5 on the season, 10-4 in the ACC.
The number 14 Wolf Pack trailed by 9 points in the second half before clawing back into
the game and defeating the Cavaliers by a final score of 68-66 on a three pointer by
Cody Burke in the final seconds.
Three members of the Wolf Pack scored in double figures as Marquisha Gatling led the way,
with 22 points on 11 rebounds.
The Lady Pack was without regular starter, Maisha Goodwin Coleman, who was out due to
injury.
The 15th ranked NC State Rifle team placed first in the 6th Southeastern Air Rifle Competition
of the season last weekend.
The Wolf Pack shot a combined aggregate score of 4,606, its fourth highest clip this season.
The Pack was led by Madeline Pike, who fired a score of 585 with a team high 35 centers.
Now turning to the Diamond, on the women's side, the softball team had a shaky start
to the season, following last year's ACC Championship.
Taking a 1-6 start to the season, they turned around with a three game winning streak, defeating
Lehigh and shutting out IPFW and Albany to close up the citrus classic at Disney's
Wide World of Sports.
The Pack's home opener is Tuesday against Saint Bonaventure.
The Wolf Pack men's baseball team followed up its season opening loss to Kinesis with
a six game winning streak, completing a three game series sweep against the Appalachian
State Mountaineers last weekend at Dogue Field.
Carlos Rodan received his first win of the season on Friday.
That was followed up with wins by Logan Jernigan and Eric Peterson on Saturday and Sunday
respectively.
The player of the game Sunday however was Jake Armstrong, who drove in all three Wolf Pack
runs in the 3-1 victory.
The Wolf Pack looks to continue its hot streak as it takes on the Davidson Wildcats Tuesday
and the Wolverines of Michigan on Friday.
Once again, I'm Logan Sims and we look forward to seeing you next time on We're Talking Sports.
