Apokite is a beautiful wolf who developed an incurable neurological disorder.
Her neck was arched and her head was bent down and twisted to one side.
The bed diagnosed an inflamed spine. The cause was unknown though it might be related to
distemper she had when she was younger. The only help was to give her pain relief using dangerous
drugs. Apokite loves us and trusts us. That trust made it impossible to give up. My partner Jean and
I asked our friend Jill to help. She's an energy healer with a physical therapy background.
She specializes in working with paralyzed human nervous systems, assisting their healing using
universal energy. She holds the space for the energy to come in and helps direct it so they can calm
and heal themselves. Knowing how sensitive wolves are to energies we thought it worth a try,
though we didn't know if she would accept a stranger putting their hands on her.
Jean brought her in and gently helped her lay down.
As he helped with calming energy, Jill put her hands on Apokite's neck and back,
feeling her way into her nervous system. After a little nervousness, she started to settle in.
It was as if she sensed we were trying to help her and felt the healing quality
of Jill's hands. She startled with any new movement of sound, attending to her environment
for danger signals, but she quickly settled back down. She started to attend more and
more to what was happening inside her. To all our amazement, she entered into a deep trance.
For 40 minutes, this shy, skittish wolf lay there, taking in the healing energy.
When Jill felt she had done enough, she pulled her energy back. Apokite woke up and looked a
bit disoriented, as if she had been very far away. She looked around, slowly got up, and started to
explore the earth. As we sat there, she came back, laid down, and basically asked for more.
Jill worked on her for another 20 minutes. When we were finished, it looked like she was thanking
her, grateful. Instead of imposing on her system with drugs, Jill had helped her find her own energy
to heal herself. The next day, though her neck was still arched, Apokite had a new look in her eye,
bright, energetic. There was a bounce in her step.
We asked Jill to come again. This time, Apokite pulled Jill all the way to the earth.
Because his knees hurt on the floor, we decided to try to put her on a massage table.
Again, she settled down quickly in this new environment, a wolf settling in on a massage table.
She went into a deep healing trance, and when we were finished, just lay there,
breathing deeply, eyes closed for a long time as we watched.
The third time, she came in and went directly to the massage table, stood up, and put her paws on it.
The treatments continue. Apokite is not yet fully healed, but she's much better.
We're still exploring the implications of all this.
How responsive a wolf was to loving human energy, how quickly she sensed what was going on,
and gave up her hard-wired natural fear and survival instinct to leave herself completely
open and help us in our hands. There's really no choice about helping her with everything we had.
Apokite and the bears and bison and other animals here at Earthfire give us such healing love
we had to give back. The humans and animals here care for each other and learn from each other.
We explore new ways for humans and animals to be together on this earth.
Focusing on the energy that connects all of us, humans and animals, can work together to heal
one another on a deep level that helps heal the planet.
