We're at the SolarWinds booth at VMworld 2016.
Can you tell us a little bit about SolarWinds, the company, and also what you're showing
here at VMworld?
Yeah, SolarWinds has been around for over 15 years now.
We started in the network management and monitoring business.
In the last couple of years, about six or seven years ago, we've added our server product
and our virtualization product.
So right now, we cover basically anything and everything, all things IT.
Network and switches, routers, databases, servers and applications, virtualization,
all the way down to storage.
So if you've got applications on-prem or even things in the cloud, we can monitor that
for you and give you statistics and alert you to potential issues to basically allow
you to get out in front of things and fix things before your end users start complaining
about it.
And do you have a demo here at the booth that we can take a look at?
Absolutely.
I'd love to show you guys a quick demo.
I'll show you our booth.
So what are you going to show us?
I'm going to show you our virtualization manager product, our storage product on our
Orion platform.
First thing you'll notice, it looks completely different.
With the release of NPM 12 that came out earlier this summer, we've re-skinned the whole interface.
I'm sure UX is going to be mad that there was a lot more to it than just re-skining.
But it looks a lot cleaner, a lot more modern.
We've gotten rid of the tab structure we used to have and now we've got a drop-down structure
that makes the most use of the real estate.
Awesome.
So our product we're in right now, it's virtualization manager.
What it's going to do is talk to VMware's API or Microsoft Hyper-V and pull in the metrics
and basically we pull in all of VMware's 3200 plus counters, swizzle it and basically
start presenting you with data that you can actually act on.
We're going to categorize events as severe, critical, and warning and color coordinate
them.
Things like memory ballooning, memory swapping, post-op, post-issues, anything where you can
actually get out, start taking actions and basically remediate, make your environment
work better, optimize your resources, things along those lines.
So right here, this is just our dashboard.
Right now, we've got a lot of devices that are actually in a warning state.
So I can actually click into any of these devices to start seeing actual in-depth metrics and
have recommendation on what to do.
What I've done is already clicked into an actual host to get in there and I can actually
see a VM running on here and I can see that the VM is actually running pretty good but
I've got some issues on the actual host.
So basically the memory is getting maxed out.
So a recommendation would be to actually move this to a different VM.
Unfortunately, I chose one without a different host but we've got recommendations in here
and remediation actions that allow you to choose different hosts and VMotion machines
to.
Memory changes, storage changes, take snapshots, delete snapshots, so you can actually do a
lot of your remediation right from our screen without having to log into the hypervisor.
These things are user controlled so you don't have to worry about an intern having access
to move things around or you're not, you can completely control these things.
Great.
Well, thanks for taking the time to give us a demo and tell us a little bit about the
company.
All right, thank you.
You guys have a great day.
Bye.
Bye.
