And I would say the first thing that I would encourage you all to appreciate is that your
own ideas are not that valuable, and that can be hard to come to terms with, and not
that valuable for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the social problems that you're
interested in are many later, and are part of an ecosystem, and it's an ecosystem that
there are people who've been very engaged in for a long time. Many of the ideas that
you bring are things that may have some nuance to them, but aren't necessarily totally fresh
and new, no matter what kinds of collaboration tools you use or collaboration processes.
So the second thing is something that Liz alluded to, which is that the ideas are really
just a starting point. And I made some next point, which is these situations are messy,
and one of the main issues that thing designers have is that we like things to be neat and
perfect. And in these areas, it's very rarely such, and not only is it very rarely such,
but many of the neat and perfect solutions that we celebrate don't work, and the fact
that they're neat and perfect may be inspiring, but really isn't necessarily very viable.
You may not even be the most daring creative in the room. And this is something I've learned
very quickly, working with a bunch of social entrepreneurs and fellows as part of the organization
pop tech, and in their fellows program. And you sit down with people, and you use some
of the tools and techniques you use to drive thinking, to make creative leads, and you
can find that these people are making a lot of progress. There's a lot of brave, and there's
a lot of strong, and directed, and imaginative thinking in the communities that you work
with, when people are fearless enough, and stubborn enough to take on some of these problems.
And this is what happens when a doctor designs their website. We need to redesign how we
communicate with healthcare. We need to incorporate email, I have video chatting, and just access
to your records. And this is what we both call health, it's just sort of like G-chat.
You can chat with your doctor over video, within a little bit. And I think that in the future
we shall be small and local. We don't need this, that looks horrible. That doesn't meet
the needs. That meets the needs of those 10% people who consume all those resources. We
just need, like for 90% of us, we need simple, simple things that look more like this. There's
a great company out there called ZAKDAK, whatever you guys need a doctor, you should get a ZAKDAK.
It's sort of like open table for doctors. Just contact us, let us know if you're interested,
and I'm super excited about these products that we're working on, because we need to
throw that to this.
