Hi, I'm Gareth Wilde. I'm studying over at Creative Arts and I have a double major in
graphic design and digital visual arts. In the future I hope to get into concept design,
entertainment design, mainly designing characters and creatures and environments for video games
and cinema.
Hi, I'm Lexie. I'm studying at Creative Arts and I'm majoring in photography. I'm hoping
to be a fashion photographer, travelling overseas. The lectures are really great and they're
always there to offer us one-on-one feedback and really push us to do the best that we
can.
The illustration lecturers have quite a wealth of knowledge that you're hard pressed to
find in any book anywhere. They really know their craft really well and they're incredibly
helpful in sort of putting forth all that knowledge for you.
They really take us under their wing, developing concepts and really pushing us to conceptualise
our work in a more advanced level.
Yes, they're quite generous with their feedback. They definitely know when to sort of hold
back on the feedback to kind of drive you to push yourself.
The expertise from our lecturers and their constant encouragement and feedback is really
helpful for us as a student to develop our professional skills and technique.
The facilities really are impeccable. We have 24-hour access which is incredibly helpful
for all of us night hours who pretty much work throughout the entire night.
I find the facilities top-notch. It's a 24-hour access to the computer labs and the studios.
Just an abundance of graphics tablets to work with, computers, it's all really catered
for.
All the latest Canon 5D Mark IIs, broncolour lights mounted overhead. We've got one Infinity
Cove, Cyclorama, pretty much anything you need to pull off professional shoot.
The Creative Exchange is a third-year core subject and essentially what it is is they're
getting a collective pull. You break off into different groups and you pull all your skills
and attributes that you've sort of accumulated throughout the three-year course and you're
working on a sort of like a real-life project, really, something that you want to impress
industry with, something that will add to your portfolio.
Our project is about developing a community organisation for emerging artists within the
fashion industry. The techniques that we've learnt, the people skills, everything has
helped us really step into the industry. Getting feedback from industry people as well, it
shows that we actually are quite ahead of the rest of the crowd.
Yes, two of my fairly close friends, Emeryn Vegard, they're from Norway and have assimilated
very, very well into our sort of way of doing things. They frequent all the parties, for
example, very easygoing people. We worked on a short film together, it was sort of a
guest lecture we had from Germany and it went very well.
The two of my closest friends from the course are from Norway, Emeryn Vegard and it's really
good to see how people from other cultures interpret our course and interpret the world
and that really helps with creative visions. You should come to JC, because it's fantastic.
Fantastic! Cool, thank you very much Lexi.
My name is Vegard Bjarnsett, I am 23 years old. I do the Bachelor of New Media Arts majoring
in design and I'm from Norway. Hopefully I'll land a good job which gives me money for coming
up with stuff. I hope to do graphic design and maybe a bit of screenwriting and similar
activities. Hi, I'm Emma, I'm from Norway. I study Bachelor
of New Media Arts majoring in digital media design. Hopefully I'll be working as a topographic
designer with an analogue and digital media. What I've gained from doing this degree is
basically building upon what I already learned in Norway of graphic design with both movie
and visual arts and web design. A lot of different skills that will do me good in the future.
This mainly had an impact on my career path within the interactive part of it, because
we had a pretty good background on printed design when I came from Norway. But here you
get really good in-depth knowledge in software like After Effects and Premiere Pro so that
you can actually develop your skills further than the printed medium.
As far as both teaching staff and facilities go, there are a wealth of knowledge to be
found in the teachers and they're very, very good. Many of the subjects kind of pushes
you to break a few boundaries, such as contacting industry people, which is the scariest thing
of all. It's like contacting basically heroes within your craft. And actually realizing
that you get positive replies from most of them is kind of a door opener. Yeah, facilities
are very, very good. Mac Labs, which have basically everything you need and their air
condition, thank God. Motivation and inspiration don't always come at the most pleasant hours
of day, so it's good to have 24-hour access and pleasant weather.
Creative Exchange is a collaborative project, cross-disciplinary. Our project is a web
series, which is based on multi-platform with story extensions that go on all the social
networks. We aim to do a viral marketing campaign.
Australia or Australian life in general is a good Norwegian summer. That's been a very
pleasant conversion for me. People are very friendly. They're good people, all of them,
at least the ones I've met, which is a fair few over the last one and a half years. Mainly
good barbecues, good weather and a general pleasant lifestyle down here.
The difference between Australia and Norway is mainly the culture. Here people are really
open-minded, easy to get to know, you get accepted really quick.
I've met a multitude of people here that I see myself having contact with many years
into the future. It's just you kind of bond when you come from overseas and you get into
an environment that's really, really friendly and you actually can collaborate on a project
you enjoy and you like and you would hope to keep that relationship alive for many years
to come.
Over our Christmas break we did a massive road trip from Townsville down away to Melbourne
and back, which gave me the opportunity to see quite a lot of Australia. Mission Beach,
which is ironically north of Townsville, and Mystery Bay in New South Wales is just amazing,
amazing places. And a lot of things to see and a lot of places to visit, so that was
very, very good.
The people is pretty much the tough one reason why I like Australia, because it's so easy
to get to know people and the way we got received in the beginning as well is just amazing compared
to what I feel like it would have been in Norway. And I think I've made some lifelong
friends here.
