Oh my god.
That was dangerous.
That was dangerous.
Jignata Mandada is the quintessential A4 line on El Capitan, for sure.
It was put up in the early 80s at the Jim Bridwell route.
It's a sustained A3, A4 climb, meaning that the majority of the route is copper heads
that are already in place, hooking features, and then bird beaks.
It's very thin, it's very run out, and the potential to take a 30 to 60 to 100 foot whipper is there.
And it's climbing that has consequences.
We are about to climb Jignata Mandada.
5 day mission or what?
Yeah, 6 day mission.
So I'm fueling up, I'm going unadulterated.
We are about to climb Jignata Mandada.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's going to lose weight, just watch your head.
When you speed climb, all you take is a few small bags with just your food, just your water,
and you just crank out the pitches as fast as you can.
And so now instead of taking 3 hours of pitch, you're taking 30 to 40 to 50 minutes of pitch
and then you're short fixing, so you're only at the belay for a minute, maybe 2 minutes.
And so it's awesome to dial the efficiency down and so you're able to climb some big walls,
like oceans of granite.
Being able to climb with Dave and Shane is an incredible experience, the three of us just seamlessly work together.
Once we start climbing, we don't even need to talk about the climbing because everyone knows their job,
knows their role, and it's just amazing.
How are we doing on time?
You see, it's 1.50, we've started at 8 o'clock, so we're at hour 6, and what pitch are we on right now?
I don't know.
I think we're...
He's got one more after this.
So we're almost over halfway, so we're doing good.
Yeah.
We're doing real good.
Raise on!
Dave is just smooth and cool as a cucumber.
The ball's deep in the gnar, man.
How was that pitch?
The pitch was good.
It took a little pinger.
I pulled a couple of heads, and then I pulled one and then I didn't fall, and then I pulled one that was right below it.
But that's why they call it the Sandbox, or at least that's what we call it now.
But it was good.
It wasn't too hard.
There was a big quest of bat hooks at the end that was a little heinous, but not too bad.
Nice.
Now it's Shane's lead.
Shane took over right as it was getting dark, which is the toughest block for sure.
He's been Jumaarin and trying hard all day, and now he's got to take over, take the baton, take us to the top.
So!
It's an optical illusion, so I'm giving you this way.
Shadows and rays.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
Woo.
This is a big day. I've had one of those up here.
I try to keep it casual these days, you know.
Oh, man.
Alright, well...
Operation descent.
Those paper bags, and it like, it actually came down to get our stuff.
Here it was. I had, I was part of this weird conversation with this dude.
Who's that guy? Who's that guy in the...
It was like telling us about JP.
No, that dude rifle. Remember that guy?
