You know a lot of people say that's all you're doing winning. That's all our nation is about winning.
Everybody must enjoy winning. Everybody must be sad when you lose.
If we're going to continue to be the strongest and the most powerful nation in the world,
we're going to have to continue to have people like you to teach winning.
Well what inspired me to get into coaching and become a coach is other coaches that coached me when I was young.
First being my godfather Charles Bingham who was a Broward County Sheriff, police officer.
He coached me and little lead and growing up and seeing the effects that he had on me.
It was only natural for me to you know take on the profession of coaching.
And so I've just been influenced by several great men who influenced my life you know through the field of coaching.
All I've known is football all of my life you know whether I was playing the game or having the opportunity to coach the game.
I remember being a fifth grader and my dad was coaching basketball and I was responsible for blowing the whistle for the wind sprints.
So it's just something that's always been embedded in me and something that I've always wanted to do. It's my passion.
Of course we're paid to win football games and be successful on the field.
But also it's about developing our young people off the field so that they can go out and create a family of their own and develop their kids as they move forward.
About a month ago I got a call from one of my former players at Miami University.
It was like 2.30 in the morning and I answered the phone and I said are you alright?
He said coach I just want to thank you for being a great father figure for me.
That makes it all worth it.
Every day I get confirmation that I'm doing the right thing because guys that maybe I coached five years ago, six years ago, ten years ago
they'll shoot me a message or something say coach man thought about what you said ten years ago.
And that right there is enough for me to be sustained to the next day.
To say no matter what your circumstances, where you come from, that you can make it and you can be successful in life.
I kind of put on a serious face with them for a brief moment to make them tough and I just start grilling them for a moment at the end of the day.
What I'm done with them I just crack up because it's funny to me because I was doing that intentionally to make them tough.
Be mentally tough and ready to play.
At the end of the day I'm having fun with them.
Coaching football is not easy.
You have to check your ego at the door.
You're everyone's head coach and so sometimes you make a decision that's best for your football team that everybody doesn't agree with.
As a head coach you're represented above an entire university and you're in the pattern of the lives of a hundred sold men every given year.
But as a coach it's giving me the values of giving back and I don't think there's anything else right now.
I would rather be doing other than coaching.
I love my job.

I don't think I would ever see in the world if it wasn't for football.
Thank you.
It's time of people.
Who can make winners out of losers.
In this profession you get better or you get worse.
Do whatever is necessary to win.
