I want you to know that I see lots of friends and well-wishers in the audience.
In fact, here come a couple of lovely, lovely ladies who are bringing me something up on
the stage.
Oh, hello Brown. Wait a minute, give me a sugar. Thank you. I know them too. Thank you so much.
Oh, well, wait. This can get, this can get. Thank you.
Oh, thank you. I just want to show you all my love, all my love, all the love I feel for you, babe.
Oh, let's get it on. I mean, there's nothing wrong with love come close to me. This is clear. This dance will be here nice and slow.
Oh, no, I don't know what to say.
Recently I was backstage at a fashion show and there was a sign that read fashion is not funny.
I always thought fashion was funny and fun.
You know, it's so crazy these days. All these young rebels that I'm photographing are so afraid to be new in a picture.
They have to go and ask their grandmother who lives maybe halfway around the world for her permission.
A lot of girls say to me that they can't be topless unless they first ask their girlfriends.
And a lot of boys say to me that they can't go swimming new because they first have to ask their boyfriend.
Let me tell you a little secret. This film I'm making right now was originally going to be called If You Don't Want to Be New, Wear a Suit.
And in fact, this is the first film I've ever made without my dogs and Elizabeth Taylor.
Now, they don't have a problem about being new. They have what one calls the natural swagger of life, even if they're wearing a whole lot of clothes.
But you're going to see some of my new pals and you're going to hear some music from my champion of soul, Marvin Gaye.
And yes, you're going to see some footage on Bunny Yeager. She's one of my favorite photographers and she's real pretty.
Well, I think that I'm not going to pretend I'm a saint or a monk or anything, but I am what I am and I think as a whole individual,
one shouldn't express what one feels and what one feels inside one's soul as an artist and I just try and express life as I see it.
And certainly sensuality and sex is a great part of our lives. We don't like to speak of it too often.
It seems better if it's done quietly.
Look, Terry, let me talk frankly with you. You and I could make a lot of money together.
You mean by me posing new for you? What's wrong with that? You've seen my pictures. Is there anything wrong with any of them?
Well, no, but I never thought of me doing it. Besides, my boyfriend would have a fit.
Joe, I'm frustrated. I want to take that modeling job so we can get married.
Okay, suppose I said go ahead and do it. What do you think our friends would say? But how about your girlfriends? I'll bet they'll have a thing or two to say.
Let them. There isn't one of them who wouldn't do the same thing if they had anything to show.
Each shot made me more enthused and hopeful of winning the big prize.
While studio lights give the best all-round controls, it can't match the sparkle of sunlight.
I was taking a chance, but it looked like it was going to be worth it.
You're beautiful. Is this what I made all the noise about? Why, there's nothing rude about these pictures at all.
You mean it's all right?
Sure, these are fine.
If this world were mine.
These women in Bunny's photographs, they're just girls from her neighborhood.
All that I own. You better know.
Hey, look at me and enjoy what you see and be proud of what you feel.
There's a tenderness there, like a newborn baby and an intimacy that jumps out at you and grabs your hand.
And if you're lucky, brings you into her world of letting go.
Ain't nothing like a real baby or me.
Ain't nothing like the real thing.
I've got your picture hanging on the wall, but it can't see or come to me when I call your name.
I realize it's just a picture in a frame.
I read your letters. You're not there, but they don't prove to me.
They don't prove to me like when I did.
All the memories are in my eyes.
Ain't nothing like the real thing baby.
A friend of mine, Chris Christofferson, once wrote these lyrics in his song, Me and Bobby McGee.
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.
Nothing. I don't mean nothing, honey, if it ain't free.
Ain't nothing like the real thing.
Oh, baby.
