6 reporters. 6 different modes of transport. One mission. Who could get from downtown Detroit
to the Thinker statue at the DIA in Midtown in Back to the Fastest. I'm Eric D. Lawrence.
I cover a sort of transit topic. I'll be taking the bus. I'm J. C. Rindall. I'm a reporter
at the Free Press. I normally cover business topics and today I'm going to beat the Q-line
on foot. I'm Detroit Free Press auto critic Mark Fielin. I'm going to be driving a 2017
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. My name is Alicia Anderson. I am a reporter on the Metro Desk
and I'm taking the Q-line today. I'm Alyssa Robinson. I'm a web editor for the Free Press
and I'll be taking an Uber. I'm Free Press columnist Brian Dickerson and I'll be taking
a mogo bicycle. Actually, I see a Q-line. I'm going to jog a little faster so I can try
to catch it. Oh wait, I just remembered there's no running allowed. I'm now fast walking. I'm
making pretty good time so far. I'm sure I'm in the lead. I'm feeling pretty good about
this. Okay, so I'm waiting out here for the 53 bus. Take me to the DIA. We're leaving
a streetcar in our dust as we speak. This is my first time on a mogo bicycle. And off
we go. I consider Alyssa my main competition in the Free Press race. So many Ubers downtown
that getting one only took three minutes to pick me up. So I have been on the Q-line for
just over 10 minutes. I am about, it looks like two stops away from where I need to go
to the DIA. Haven't got any text messages yet from anyone who's arrived at the DIA so I
might be doing pretty good. I admit I'm a little nervous. I can hear the Q-line right
behind me, the opposite side of the road. And I just hope my colleague is not on it since
I have not made much distance. I can see JC up ahead. We're a few blocks from the DIA
so I'm not sure if we're going to catch him or if we're going to stop here or if we're
going to put a pot on his tail. There's Dickerson. We're about to pass Free Press editorial writer
Brian Dickerson who is not maintaining good lane discipline I have to say.
My colleague just beat me on the MGO bike. Okay so I'm back on the 53 bus headed south
on Woodward. Looks like I'm about to lap JC. Let's see if he smiles for us. The most
important lesson I learned. Don't ride your bike on the Q-line right now. I see the end
right in front of me. I'm up fast. Almost to the finish line.
I'm almost to the finish. My wrist is hurting and I think my spill on Woodward just cost
me first place to Alyssa. I'm back to the finish line. I think I'm going to be the first one here. I'm so excited. It was super easy. Super fast. I can't believe it.
I'm going to be the first one here. I'm going to be the first one here. I'm going to be the first one.
