Initially, we were probably chasing stories, chasing different stories.
We were chasing different experiences and then we realized that what we had achieved through all our journey was perhaps honest human connection.
Which is why we left our home and everything we own and just set forth on the journey.
Travelling is one of the most mind opening experiences I think any individual can ever have.
For just two strangers to enter into an unknown territory and what we actually experienced was pure unconditional love.
There was pure human connection and that's how the name Rest of My Family came about.
It's Rest of My Human Family, Rest of Your Human Family.
Rest of Your Human Family
The situation of the lowest rungs of society is pretty much the same.
Whether it's a tribal community that we are speaking of or whether it's the Dalit community we are speaking of.
Most situations what happens is they have been neglected because of a very design of a paradigm.
We started from Karnataka itself. We went to Dawangere where we were exploring the ongoing farming crisis.
The problem and the pain of farmers is that if we have any property then we should be free and the people of this place should be free.
In Koppel there were moments when I truly felt what it meant to be broken from within.
These women were actually born Dalit. They lived their entire life as Dev Dasis.
We are currently here in Buster in Satishgarh mainly to explore the Adivasi situation but to also understand the conflict and nature of conflict.
Through Rest of My Family, apart from documenting about different communities and their issues and their problems and their struggles,
we also identify working with the community what are the ways in which we can support them so they can empower themselves in the long run.
So far we have done projects along education, healthcare, solar electrification, drinking water issues, farmer cooperatives.
We have created a society along the lines of selfish competition with notions like survival of the fittest and every single community that we have lived with
and documented about has shown and time and again proven that this selfish way of life lies at the core of all social issues.
We want to start a healthy discussion and debate about looking at social issues in this light by shifting from a competitive way of living to a more collaborative and a more cooperative way of living.
