A lot of the people who come to the drawing room are very good artists but have never
had an exhibition and never shown their work to anyone.
It's sort of like a private passion.
I got to talking to a couple of the regulars and suggested that maybe we look around and
have a bit of an exhibition just to showcase some of their beautiful works and they were
very positive about it.
And lo and behold within three weeks I was approached by the director of Newcastle Art
Space wanting to know if the drawing room was interested in having a collaborative drawing
exhibition with two other drawing classes in Newcastle.
Put a proposal to my artist saying you know pick out some of your good works, maximum
of ten and bring them in and we'll have a bit of a look at it and then we'll have an
exhibition.
We had a three week exhibition and there were over 70 works sold.
There was a buzz, we had a beautiful opening, there were over 200 people at the opening.
The wine flowed, everyone was happy and chatty and people had to go and supervise the exhibition
during the week and talk to people about their artworks and it was just a really fabulous
experience and I'm sure they all came back and said it was just wonderful.
I really really really enjoyed it.
And all the works looked fabulous and it was something.
It looked a treat, it was fabulous, the artists loved it and so did we and I think we're
going to do that every year.
