Welcome to New Caledonia, known for its chicken, its beaches, its lagoon and its forest.
After another one of my useless introduction, we decided to head north.
We had been told that all the moon was sealed and of course it didn't take long before we started driving.
Duh!
Lots of dirt.
To catch up, only one solution.
Change the driver.
Let's go.
End of the first day.
Well, it didn't go too well.
We started at the airport and decided to go up north all the way to Burai.
It's only about 100 kilometers and we have more than 800 kilometers to do over the whole week.
So, it wasn't that good.
We came just across from the ocean so we decided that to start the day, let's check the lagoon.
I wanted to try my luck with some local products, a snorkel and mask bought the day before.
All made in China, of course.
Honestly, it didn't really look very good and it was actually a real piece of rubbish.
Have I told you rubbish?
After wasting our time with a rubbish mask, it was time to hit back the road.
Of course, it was all dirt roads.
After a few hours, we finally found back the asphalt and were able to finally get some mountain.
For our third day, after a night near a farm, we decided to have a look at the Heart of Vo.
After this first introduction of walking in New Caledonia, we decided to head for the Kumak Cave.
I decided to follow the ribbons and Caroline decided to follow her instinct.
Of course, the intake long for the ribbons suddenly stopped and I kind of ended up lost in the forest.
I had to turn around for quite a while before I could find my way back and decided that maybe I should try to find Caroline.
And after some time, I finally found the entrance of the Kumak Cave.
As we kept on driving north, there were fewer and fewer cities, fewer camping grounds,
and not a single hostel.
What had to happen happened. It's only long after sunset that we finally found the camping ground.
It's only with the moonlight and a headdash that we had to set the tent.
We had to try against snorkeling, this time with a proper mask and snorkel.
Since yesterday we were driving on the east coast and it's quite spectacular.
We changed from the bush to the tropical forest and the waterfalls.
Strangely enough, despite the east coast being not as deep as the west coast, we drove a lot faster.
The last ferry of the island was actually even a relief, giving us a bit of time to admire the scenery.
Enough of snorkeling, trekking, driving around, it was no time to go scuba diving and finally have a proper look at the largest lagoon in the world.
The flood journey took us from the southern north to the northern continent and we looked pretty much at theね.
For our last night we decided to go inland and find a peaceful farm for the night.
Unfortunately we got walking up by the streamer just a few meters away from the tent.
We pissed, we decided to leave even without taking a breakfast.
For our last couple days of diving, we decided to head to the far immediate island.
And believe me, it was just spectacular.
Not only the view from the top of the lighthouse, but the beach as well, snorkeling and of course, the diving.
It passes faster than it should, so in my mind I'm just fending with the big dreams and comedies.
Here's when I need love, she runs for help, she destroys me with her eyes.
I want to kill her, I want to kill my love.
So when I find her, she catches a guitar.
New Caledonia turned out to be a bit of a strange destination.
There is obviously a lot to do, trekking, snorkeling, diving, but you're never really sure where is one.
And it's also very hard to get in touch with local people.
Nevertheless, it's a beautiful place and we'll be back for sure.
