Hello, my name is Marcel. I'm a graphic designer working independent and I'm based in Hamburg.
And last year I challenged myself with a personal project, which is called One Poster a Day.
And it's nearly about what it's titled. I designed every day one single poster.
And I started last year, January the 1st.
And the last poster was on December 31. So at the end I had 365 posters.
I was very lucky at all that people recognized this and re-blocked that and liked it.
And it came very popular about blogs on the internet. That was really cool.
I remember one time I was booked in an agency and the art director came up with me and introduced me to job and briefing.
And then he had a little mood folder with images in it. And in one of that there was already my poster in the mood.
But he didn't know that it was from me. It was a very, very funny moment.
And then I asked him, where did you get it? And he said, I don't know, he also didn't know.
He just picked it up from the internet on some of the blogs.
From time to time I tried to make it a little bit easier for me.
And I designed, I think, a couple of series of posters which are dealing from three days or five days to seven days with the same topic or with the same idea.
For example, I had one series where I just picked up a spam mail of that day and transformed this into a poster.
And I called this series Spam Daily, like the newspaper front page.
Oh, that's, I'm not sure. I think there is no poster which is just dealing with what has a graphic designer to do or about the job or something like that.
No, I don't think so. But some things happening around work also influence the posters.
For example, I remember one situation where I was booked in an agency and I had to wait nearly the whole day for feedback.
And at the end of the day I was wasting more time when waiting, or most of the time I was wasting with waiting than instead designing or working really.
And so at the end of the day I designed a poster which is dedicated to this impression of waiting.
And this is also what I really like about this gallery here, that it's not only for a small amount of people which then see the posters on the opening or something like that.
So here I have seen a lot of people drive by, walking by, so this is nice because that's what a poster should be.
It should be in the public and should present ideas to people outside. And it's very cool that this really happens here.
