We're at the 2010 Western State Horse Expo, but they're presenting the first annual Dog Expo.
So guess what? We're here!
All I do is train dogs. That's my life.
They say, what do you do? I just train dogs.
What do you do? I don't have time. I just train dogs.
What's your name, man? Jesse.
What's your dog's name? Biscuit.
Biscuit. What's up, Biscuit?
What's the issues you have with him?
A lot of dog aggression.
A lot of dog aggression?
He's like really obsessed with dominant.
It's the first time you've met Joss?
Yeah. I've never done anything like this. Anything could help.
How did you hear about Joss?
The internet.
Biscuit. Let's hope the best for him now.
So one thing we have to understand, we have a hyper dog.
The dog doesn't need to be neutered. He needs to be trained.
So, we'll bring in the first dog, Bull Terrier.
Okay, climb.
Alright, so this dog was having issues with sociability, right?
With other dogs?
Okay.
So, I just bring a sociable dog in the picture,
and I maintain control of the unsocial dog.
Now I'm going to go ahead and expose him.
Now he shows a tooth, or he lifts his nose,
and his mouth up a little bit like he's showing aggression.
I just give him a slight correction,
and that's not acceptable behavior.
Tighten up a little bit, tell him, hey, knock it off.
When he's doing a good job, good boy, that's good.
And he'll say, man, I just like this other thing better.
I don't want to cause all this trouble. It's not worth it.
So, this is how we socialize.
We just put them in an environment where we have a stable dog,
and we basically, we kind of ignore the fact that he is even scared to say,
hey, face your fears.
And what you'll notice is a lot of things that dogs get away with,
once they know that they have a pack of leader that's strong,
they won't even try that stuff,
and they'll say, you know what, I know that's not going to fly.
And dogs will continue to test it if they think you're weak.
So you have to make sure and show them that you're strong,
and that you stand behind what you want.
Can you just tell me how long you guys have been working with Joss so far?
This is Swedenborg with Joss for just the, yesterday was our first day.
Have you already seen progress with your dog?
Yeah, definitely.
Progress so far.
And so what are some of the things that you've already learned
that you could use with the dog?
For working with the dogs, it seems like it establishes that,
okay, I'm the leader, I'm the pack leader,
and then you listen, and then once they're off that,
it was like the rest of the day, he knew that he was the pack leader
and to walk around and respect, okay.
I think in the future we would love to come with Joss
and make us, I guess, better training us
to be able to train our dog.
