Welcome to another edition of LA Rocks. I'm Red Beard. I will be your host and my co-host this week is Rick Fox.
Rick, thanks for coming to the show. What do you think of our little joint, man? Isn't it great?
Awesome. I want to sit up like this in my workshop.
Oh, I know. It's awesome. We want to thank Team Sound for pulling out all the stops for us every single week.
They're great to have around. We're going to talk a little bit with Rick later on about what he's doing now and different things that are happening in his life.
But I got to tell you, this week's show is pretty amazing. The band called Rob Larkin and The Wayward Ones.
It's a band that you might have seen them on the show before. They're one of my favorite bands in town.
I like them so darn much that the credits at the end of the show runs with their song LA.
So I'm hoping they're going to play it. Maybe we can convince them to do that.
We got a second band this week called The Worst. I'm telling you, their name has no reflection of the band.
They're awesome. They're a great, talented band with a real lively drummer.
I got to tell you, Mike is just a lively drummer and you got to watch for him.
And the whole band has really got a new niche and I'm really looking forward to Rick being able to hear these two new awesome bands.
And again, we're going to have an interview with this guy. Stop by. I'm telling you, this is awesome.
LA Rocks, this is our third show, guys. That was the third season.
Hey, here we go. LA Rocks, third show, third season. We'll be right back in just a second with Rob Larkin and the wayward ones.
Alright, here we are after the show. I am with Rick Fox, the winged knight of rock and roll, man.
Hey, what do you think of the bands?
Those bands are awesome.
Worst reminded me of going back to 1976, 77, Maxis, Kansas City and St. James. That was the punk scene.
They would fit perfect in that. Rob Larkin reminds me of a guitar player, Larry Byron from Steppenwolf.
I thought you'd like him and I'm so glad that you could make it and come check him out.
Thanks for having me.
We have a couple minutes to talk a little bit about what you're doing right now. Let's talk about what you're doing right now.
You're out playing. You're kind of filling in for another bass player.
Right now, I'm sitting with you.
I'm sitting with me. He was a Khalid coming up.
Your spiders and snakes?
I'm filling in spiders and snakes. Phil St. Vincent was on a hiatus. He's the regular bass player.
They did an album that's coming up soon. It's called The Year of the Snake.
While Phil was on hiatus, they asked me if I would come in and do a bass track and I did.
We covered the Rascals slash Angels version of the Rascals song. I ain't got to eat out my heart anymore.
I recorded that with him. I figured that was it and made the news in the social media.
Then I got a call from him and said, hey, we're doing a show with Palladinos for Rockers Against Trafficking.
Do you want to come do a show with us?
I said, well, I was going to jam there anyway with Kevin Estrada.
I was jammed because it's his birthday, so every year I jam with him.
It so happens that the jam turned into Rockers Against Trafficking.
So I wound up playing both with Kevin and with spiders and snakes.
One show led to another, to another, to another, and we played with Thor a few weeks ago.
Yeah, I read that.
At Club Loaded. So I'm just doing these shows and filling in special guests until Phil comes back and that should be soon.
That's what I'm doing now. I'm just filling in with spiders and snakes.
But there is one more coming up at Loaded in Hollywood, Club Loaded in Hollywood on the 19th.
So if anybody is in town, this show is actually going to be edited and be out about a day or two before.
So if you're seeing this right now, you can still get to Loaded and get tickets and see Rick playing.
After this is over, what's on the horizon next?
Good question. I'm a free agent. I'm a night errant. My lance is for hire, not that lance.
Right.
Nightly lance.
So you're ready to go to work?
I'm ready to go to work.
I'm not in a stable position yet where I can put my own project together because, believe me, I'm climbing the walls.
I want to put my own project together. It's really hard for me to find the right people.
I've got a line on what are two excellent drummers that I really want to work with badly.
That's good to go. It comes down to a singer and guitar player.
And it's just a matter of getting that together.
So in the interim of me not having my own project together, I've been doing all-star jams from band to band.
That's awesome.
It keeps me active, keeps my calling card out there, and people are like, wow, I remember him from Steeler.
I remember him from Sin.
So you've got a Facebook page people can check out?
I have three.
Three of them. Why don't you tell me what those are?
Well, there's the regular Rick Fox Facebook page.
Okay.
Then I have one that was set up by a friend of mine, Vicky Sanker, who is one of the editors of Wikipedia.
Cool.
He set up another Rick Fox page for me.
Then I have a Rick Fox fan page.
You'll see all these things on the screen. We'll put them up for you.
We'll get them from Rick's and we'll put them up so that way you can go find out what's going on with him on a regular daily basis.
You know, Rick, I've had Chris Holmes on the show a couple of times.
I love Chris.
You are an original founding member of the band Wasp.
I know that maybe others disagree with me, but so when we have you back on the show again in the future,
I want to talk a little bit more in depth about Rick Fox, where you're from New York.
We don't have time to get into all the really great stuff.
But look, fans, he's going to be back. He's going to come back on the third.
He's going to be playing with spiders and snakes, which is a kick-ass band.
Tell us who's in that band.
Okay.
The band leader, Lizzie Gray, legendary Lizzie Gray, who founded the band London with Nicky Six.
Lizzie wrote some of the most amazing metal pop songs.
We wrote Public Enemy Number One with Nicky.
That's one of the songs in the set.
You got Tim Yasui or Timothy Jay.
He was a co-founder with Ultra Pop, which came after London before spiders and snakes.
They had Ultra Pop and they put out a whole bunch of albums.
Tim is the vice president of Cleopatra Records.
It's Lizzie and Tim. On guitar, we have Chris Sheridan from the Dallas, Texas band, Sweet Savage.
Nice.
Helping out on vocals as another special guest is Betsy from Bitch, a concertment professional.
Betsy and I both did some tracks on the spiders and snakes coming out near the snake.
That's it. That's pretty much all of us who are in the band.
If you're a fan of Greg Rock and Roll, then this is a show you're going to want to catch.
Again, that's on the 19th. It's a club loaded in Hollywood.
If you're seeing this right now, get tickets to that show and get there.
Make sure you say hi to Rick over there.
What else do you want to talk about while we're here?
People ask why I'm called the Wing Knight of Heavy Metal.
Tell me why. Let's do this.
Why are you called the Wing Knight of Heavy Metal?
It's part of my ancestry.
In the 16th and 17th century, one of the most famous, most awesome and legendary formations of cavalry
out of central Europe out of Poland was the Polish Wing Hussars.
They didn't always wear the wings, but when they did, it was a terrifying and psychologically threatening image
that would terrify the enemy's horses and demoralize the enemy.
The guys would have these big wings on their backs or on the backs of the saddles.
I see.
They were horse of saddles. They were fearsome.
They were just terrifying. They would destroy the enemy's morale.
A lot of the famous generals and commanders of other armies who fought against them
wound up writing books about tactics and strategy based on being beaten by the Polish Wing Hussars.
They were the saviors at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
They saved Europe from the Ottoman Turks, which was Islam and the Muslim of that time.
Those armies were invading.
They were just about through the walls of Vienna.
They were going to capture Vienna, a Christian center, and there was a coalition of armies,
Polish King Jan Sobieski, and armies from Germany and Austria and such like that,
and Saxony came together.
Since Sobieski had the most experience fighting against the Turks,
he was the commander-in-chief.
This was at September 12th, actually.
It was one day off from September 11th.
The battle had been going on for about three months.
The Turks were just about through the walls of Vienna.
The Germans and the Austrians were fighting on the left of the center flank.
At this point in the afternoon, Sobieski came over the top of the hills of Cullenburg.
The Turks saw the shining armor.
They saw the knights with the wings.
They saw the lion of Leckistan.
Sobieski is here.
The Turkish Khan was so flippant about it that he didn't care.
They were concentrating on getting through the walls with their explosives and whatnot.
Sobieski gave the command and the Hussars, 3,000 such winged knights,
came down out of the hills and routed the Turks off the field.
The personal tie-in is that members of our family clan,
Cullen, the Coats of Arms and Heraldry, was not like a regular Europe.
It was in Western Europe.
Polish Heraldry was a little different.
It was in a clan system.
You kind of like the Scots.
So our family clan, Coat of Arms, Salima, was represented amongst the knights who charged in Vienna.
So that's my personal tie-in, our Coat of Arms, right there.
There you go.
It's a very famous legendary Coat of Arms.
Winged knight always fitted to your ancestry as well.
Right.
What a great term.
I've spent a few decades out of rock promoting this of my Polish ancestry,
this part of Polish military history and culture.
And I figure, you know what?
Why stop?
Because I'm coming back into rock.
I'm going to bring that with me.
And I really don't...
I don't know if you do.
I don't know any rockers who promote military history with their own ancestry.
Right.
So again, I guess I'm pioneering a new avenue.
There you go.
You'll be accused of doing something wrong.
Yeah, somebody will find something wrong.
It's Rick Fox.
He did something wrong.
He did something wrong.
Hey, you know what that reminds me?
You know the new Polish Navy?
They have glass bottom boats.
So they can see the old Polish Navy.
I couldn't help but I had to go with one Polish show.
My friend Rick Fox, thanks for coming to this show.
I'll get all of this information right here on the screen.
Make sure you look him up.
The band called The Worst.
Don't be thrilled by the name.
They're not The Worst.
They're really great looking.
We're gonna do that again.
They're not great looking.
Oh, thanks.
You're welcome.
Thanks, man.
Do you have that?
I got it for you.
Okay, I'll see you later.
This is Rick Fox and you're watching LA Rocks TV with Red Man City.
My name is Eric and you're watching LA Rocks TV.
Thank you.
