Wig modifications. What would you do if you found the perfect wig, the perfect
style, cut, color, and length? When you tried on the wig, you discovered that it
fit too tightly on your head. What would you do? Would you walk out of the store
and decide that maybe I should just find another wig somewhere else that fits
properly or would you modify it? This video will show you how to modify a wig
so that it will fit comfortably on your head. As you can see, this wig comes with
a flex of comb in the front and a flex of comb in the back. And there are wets, see
here, made on an elastic band here. Okay, and what we're gonna do is make the cap a
little bit bigger. And how we're gonna do this is first you will need an elastic
strip here, a stretch elastic strip, needle, thread, and scissors. Okay, flip the
wig inside out here and go directly to the back. Okay, and you see it, you'll see
that the wets are attached to the elastic band that runs throughout the
wig. What I want you to do is go to the very last weft, that's so, get your
scissors and cut in between the weft. Okay, and this is just opened up your wig.
Do this on both sides. Find the last weft in the back right before the flex of
comb. Okay, and I want you to cut in between the two wefts. Okay, now get your
elastic and we're going to measure how much we need to cut to add to the wig.
Now if the wig that you have placed on your head, if it fit, you know, too
tightly, you know, just barely, then you would need to cut a half inch. Cut it
right here, a half inch. But if the wig was so tight that you couldn't bear it
and your circulation was cut off, then I suggest that you cut an inch of the
elastic band here. Now remember, the elastic band is going to stretch, so once
you cut off a half inch or inch, it's going to stretch even more. So you don't
want, you'll never use more than an inch. So we're going to cut half of the inch
here. So, and I'm just going to measure it just so you can see. And just put a
little nick there. And cut that. And we're going to do it for both sides. So I'm
just going to place that here. It'll be easier.
And here we are. I have now placed my wig on a canvas head just to show you how
we're going to stitch the wig together. You see here, this is where we cut the
wig cap. Okay? And we have our elastic band here. And what we're going to do, we're
going to show this elastic band to each side of the wig cap. See? And it's going
to allow the wig to stretch slightly, so it will be comfortable on your head. So
now that you have your needle and thread ready, we are going to stitch the
elastic band to the wig cap.
We are now stitching the elastic band to the wig cap. And to save time on the
video, I am only going to do the one side. And, of course, you know to complete
both sides.
And no need to worry about how neat the stitch is because this is going to be on
the underside of the wig. Adjusting wig cap sizes is a great skill to have when
dealing with customers that wear wigs. And, of course, if the elastic band is a
little too large, as you see here, you can just snip it just a little bit. Okay? And
now we're going to stitch the other side to complete the side of wig cap. Finish
the wig by stitching these two sides together. And be sure to double knot the
ends here and here to make sure that the elastic band doesn't come apart from the
wig cap. And if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can always reinforce the
stitching with glue or any type of adhesive. But that would be your choice.
Stitching should work. In just in case you missed it, if you want to generate a
double knot, you can insert the needle here. You have the loop of thread here.
Put it over the needle and pull it back and it'll create a knot for you. So
that's the really quick way to create a knot, just in case you didn't know. Okay?
You see that it's allowing flexibility here and this is what we want. Now go to
the other side and do the same thing. We have now completed the modifications for
both sides. Here's the one side here and here's the second side. You see? And you
get that additional stretch so that it will fit comfortably. So now you'll be
able to enjoy any wig of your choice. Thank you for viewing this video.
